Overview

Welcome to "Winterfell", our mountain cabin hide-away! Located just off a main road in Arnold, the house has easy access to Highway 4, and from there up to Bear Valley, or down to Murphy's. Our home has three guest suites (bedroom + bathroom) that we rent out. We do not charge a cleaning fee, and have only a one night minimum stay (four night maximum stay).

This suite is made up of a large bedroom (one queen bed, plus one folding, roll away single bed), one bathroom, and a private entrance. While there is no formal kitchen, we have set up a small bar area in the bedroom with some very basic kitchen functions - small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, etc.

There are no common areas in the main house, just the suite itself. A washer and dryer are located in the suite that the guests may use (in moderation). Occaisionally, we may need to get into the unit (with visitor's permission) to use the washer and dryer ourselves. The outside grounds are open for guests to use.

If we have time to interact during the visit, we offer our guests access to our knowledge of the area. We have both lived in Central California for most of our lives, and can give advice on what to see (and what to avoid). Otherwise, guests are free to "retreat" into the solitude of their suite if they so desire.

Many of the houses near us do not have full time residents. Some may only have people for a few weeks out of the year. This makes the area very quiet and serene. When other folks are around, they prefer the solitude..... So, please, we ask that our guests not make any loud noises, such as partying, barking dogs, and loud music.

The only public transportation in the area is a county bus that runs up and down Highway 4. We may be able to help with some transportation from Highway 4, upon arrangement. We provide guest parking on the property for one car (more than one car is possible with prior arrangements).

Pets - Only one well behaved dog is allowed in the unit (sorry, no cats). The dog should never be left alone in the unit.

Quiet Time - Quiet time strictly observed between 10 PM and 6 AM.

ID Requirement - An ID "MAY" be requested upon checkin. We may do this to ensure minimum age requirements for AirBnB contracting (18 years old), as well as to ensure a guest is the same person on the AirBnB profile.

WILDLIFE WARNING - This is a semi-country setting, with lots of wildlife, including the occasional black bear and mountain lion. Please do not try to be "friendly" with these wild beasts. Keep your distance, and PLEASE don't try to feed them. If such a nature setting is not "your thing," please consider other accomodations.

Off Street Parking - We provide one off-street parking spot for our guests. This spot is up a steep driveway, with turns. In winter, some folks are leery of driving up and into that spot when they see it. Some folks may prefer to park on the street and walk up. That is fine with us. There is a parking spot at the bottom of the driveway that we keep clear for this purpose.

Electricity - The power company (PG&E) may turn off electricity due to fire hazards at certain critical times. This is just part of life in the area. If this happens, no refunds will be given for bookings. However, we will work to make our guests as comfortable as possible under the circumstances.

We have both lived in Central California since the 1970's. Originally, we came to the area to attend nearby Universities ‐‐- Aaron attending the University of California at Santa Cruz, and Lynn attending the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey. Aaron is from Southern California (a "SoCal Refugee" is what he calls himself), while Lynn is a native of New York City ('nuf said!). We met in Monterey in the mid-nineties and have been together since.

Aaron is retired from Federal Government service, where he worked for 25 years on marine fisheries, conservation, and reserves. Lynn is retired from the international import/export/retail business.

Both of us are well traveled, and understand the needs and wishes of travelers. Aaron has lived in Asia and Africa for a total of about five years, besides traveling throughout most of the rest of the world. For twenty years, Lynn was a international buyer for a large import company in San Francisco. While in that position, Lynn specialized in South Asian and Eastern European imports, traveling extensively throughout those areas. We continue to travel as often as we can, and spend a lot of time at the small cabin we own in a coastal forest of Costa Rica.

At a B&B we once stayed at in northern California, the proprietor told us that running a B&B was like, "traveling the world without going anywhere." Traveling the world was, for her, really just about meeting new people. She said that running a B&B was currently her preferred way to travel the world. In our retirement, we thought we would see what it was like to "travel the world without going anywhere!"

- No smoking in the house. If you must smoke outside, please move several feet from an entrance or window. Please be aware of fire hazards.
