Welcome to 54 Bernard Street!

Step into our beautiful 2 bedroom home just off The Shore and you feel right at home. Ideal for enjoying the city, the festivals, the water, restaurants and everything else Edinburgh has to offer. Two double bedrooms and a double sofa bed in the lounge means that 6 people (+1 infant) can stay here comfortably. Of course you can use our kitchen, and the bathroom has a bath, shower and toilet. Did we mention FREE WIFI? Great transport links to Princes Street too!

Guests have the whole apartment to themselves.

Where possible we will meet you on arrival to show you around and answer any questions you may have. During your stay we are only a phone call away :)

Bernard Street is in the heart of The Shore, Edinburgh’s former bustling port. I grew up here, and like many ‘Leithers’ will always hold it dear. The riverside area just outside our front door is one of Edinburgh’s best eating and drinking spots, cherished by locals and visitors alike, and is considered by many to host its top seafood reataurants.
There are many to choose from depending on your tastes, but here are a few tips which we consider worth knowing:

Bars and restaurants:

Restaurants:
- Fisher’s
- The Shore
- Malmaison Restaurant
Clustered next to each other at the end of The Shore (2 right turns out of the front door), these three restaurants represent high quality seafood and local produce based meals, in an elegant dining atmosphere.

Pub Meals:
- The Ship on the Shore
- The King’s Wark
- The Leith Beer Company
Excellent bar meals served in these old favourites and all just a few steps from the front door. Watch out for the latter’s amazing evening specials. Also great places to sit outside by the river watching the world go by - when the Edinburgh weather permits of course!

Cafes - Breakfast and Lunch:
- Marmalades
- Mimi’s Bakehouse
The first being across the road and to the left along Bernard Street and offering delicious, low-cost coffees, teas and lunches. Mimi’s is across the road and along The Shore and has a staggering array of delicious cakes, pastries, teas and snacks.

Off-the-beaten-track:
- Carrier’s Quarters.
A local haunt and typical Leither’s den (a few doors along turning right out the front door). Homegrown live bands play a mix of music on a sunday evening.
- Roseleaf.
Across the bridge to the left and slightly off the river. Informal and quirky, with innovative cocktail presentation and a good gastro reputation.
- Teuchters
Warm and friendly pub perched on the riverside, off the street in a quieter setting. Just over the bridge and across the square to the right.

Public Transport Links:
For getting out of Leith and heading to Edinburgh Old Town and centre, Bernard Street could not be better connected. The 22 bus runs every 5-10 minutes from a stop in front of Mimi’s Bakehouse (across the road and follow the Shore) and goes to Princes Street and beyond. Journey time to Edinburgh centre is about 20 minutes. There is a flat fare of £1.70 per journey or £4 for a day ticket

The number 35 bus takes you to The Royal Mile in about 15-20 minutes.

Please note we charge a late arrival fee of £20 for arrivals between 9PM and midnight or £30 for arrivals after midnight. This fee will be due in cash on arrival or can be pre-paid via AirBNB.

They are not on holiday and do not wish to be disturbed by our guests making noise/ringing their doorbell etc. By booking with us you are contractually agreeing to abide by our house rules and accept that we reserve the right to evict guests who cannot obey these rules. Quiet time is 10PM till 8AM

About me:
I am a Dutch girl living in Scotland. Mum of 2 boys, 2 dogs and 2 cats. I love traveling, meeting new people and learning new things. Most recently I have been improving my photography skills at college. In my (very limited) spare time I walk my dogs, read books and meet up with Outlander fans from around the UK and further afield.

My travels have so far taken me to:

Please confirm 7 days before arrival what time you expect to arrive in Edinburgh and how you will be travelling to Edinburgh. We will then be able to arrange to meet you at the apartment. We do not use lock boxes. No scheduled arrivals after 10PM. Please note we charge a £20 arrival fee for arrivals between 9PM and midnight, or £30 after midnight.

Minimum age limit for renters: 18
The main renter has to be above 18 years old. He / she is responsible for all other guests and has to reside at the apartment throughout the booking duration. No under age guests to be left alone at the apartment. No 3rd party bookings are allowed.
Payment Policy
We require a 25% deposit to secure the booking. the balance is due 6 weeks before arrival.

Payment can be made to our UK bank account (details will be supplied after booking) or via PayPal. Unfortunately due to the charges added by PayPal we will have to add 3% to the total amount for payment by PayPal.
Refundable Damage Deposit
The security deposit will be refunded 48 hours after check-out
Cancellation Policy
We regret that, in the event of a cancellation,
1. We cannot refund your initial deposit.
2. We can only refund the balance of any payment if we manage to re-let the property.
i.e. If the property is re-let at a lower rate, we reserve the right to retain the difference from your payment.

We always strongly recommend that you arrange appropriate travel insurance to cover cancellations before booking any travel/accommodation.
