Overview

Relax and escape to the peace and quiet by the Potomac river, and wake to beautiful romantic views of the river and mountains, in this Historic house on 2.5 acres, 450 feet of river front land. Explore and partake of all the activities on the river and surrounding area. Fish, bike, kayak, tube, or sit by the river, watch the birds and wild life, just 1 mile from Shepherdstown. Read by the river or comfort of the house, or listen to music from Amazon Alexa, w/ a bottle of wine, Elope or renew.

This historic home has a cozy modern addition with kitchen, bathroom, and master bedroom, that matches well with the historic stone travelers Inn, right in the Shepherdstown suburb.

Outside there is a large lawn backed to a wooded hill loved by birds and wild life. Just 200 feet to the river with 450 feet of river front, across the lightly traveled river road. A large fire pit and plenty of log seating overlooking the river. Sit quietly for a bit and you might catch a glimpse of river otters, deer, fox and many other wild life coming to the river. Across the river is the C&O national historic park and tow path hiking trail. This section of the river is usually shallow and often can be walked across, near Packhorse Ford. Between the property and Shepherdstown is the historic battlefield of Shepherdstown with walking path with markers.

The master bedroom has a very comfortable king size bed with CertiPUR foam mattress, with extra pillows. There is a walk in closet and full on suite bath. The large windows overlook the river and feature curtains and blinds so you can sleep in. Walk out to the balcony deck for even better views.

Also upstairs in the old stone walled side is a large room with comfortable chairs and couch. The couch pulls out for additional sleeping on a comfortable Queen sized mattress. A desk with lots of lighting is a great place to do any work or emails and book case stocked with games and books to trade. The room is well lit and comfy for reading or board games. We have added a TV and DVD player with lots of family movies (but no TV service), for rainy days.

Living room on the main floor of the stone house is equally large with overstuffed couch and love seat as well as rocking chair. You can really see the construction of the historic home in this room with exposed rough hewn beams and deep window wells. Amazon Alexa is here to help you with music, games, and information as well as turning on/off the lights ( remote switch as well by the door). This room was most likely the kitchen with the originally large cooking fireplace, now non-functional, but still striking.

The Kitchen is bright with recessed LED lighting and under counter lights, a large modern table so groups can chat over meals and plan the daily events, while watching the river from the large window. Fully equipped with utensils, oven, microwave, and coffee maker. Off the kitchen you will find a powder room and full laundry.

Full access to all living spaces, deck, parking area, all yard areas.
The river front and fire pit are shared areas with the 1940s Tiny House.

Host

Love a good book and glass of wine while relaxing by the river, or kayaking and watching the birds on the river.

My husband, Richard, and I love hosting. We love the Shepherdstown area and vibe and the seclusion of our stone house. We like to travel with AirBnB and sharing experiences, so it is a natural fit to share our space.

We were interested in tiny homes so Richard rebuilt the 1940s fishing cottage as a tiny house using materials onsite and repurposing. We hope you enjoy the homes.
