My phone verification code did not arrive

Last updated September 19, 2026

Confirming a phone number is one of the steps before you can add a listing, so when the code does not turn up, everything else stops with it. Most of the time it is fixed in under a minute, and the fix is not the one hosts reach for first.

Ask for the code by phone call instead

This is the one to try first. When you add a number at Edit Profile → Phone Numbers, you choose how the code reaches you — text message or phone call. If the text has not arrived, go back and choose phone call. The call reads the same 4-digit code out to you, and it takes a completely different route to your phone, so a carrier that is filtering our text has nothing to do with it.

Hosts often retry the text five or six times before noticing the call option. Try the call on the second attempt, not the sixth.

Check the number you entered

Two things worth a second look:

  • The country code. The number needs to be in full international form, the same way you would dial it from abroad.

  • It has to be a line you can answer directly. Houfy stores one number per entry and has no separate field for an extension, so a switchboard number that needs an extension dialled will not work for this. Use a mobile or a direct line.

Give it a minute before retrying

A code that is slow is not a code that failed, and a text can take a couple of minutes to work its way through. Give the first one time to land before you send another. If you do end up with more than one code, the newest one is the one to enter.

Short numbers that Houfy will not accept

Some countries have national numbers shorter than eight digits — Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, Belize, Iceland, the Maldives, Curaçao, Fiji, Dominica and the Cayman Islands among them. Several of our forms reject anything under eight digits without looking at the country, so a perfectly working phone can be refused.

The way through is to type the country code inside the number field itself — for example 354 followed by your seven digits — rather than selecting it from the list beside the field. That clears the check. The number is then stored in an unusual shape, so if we need to call you, give us the real number in your message thread.

This one is worth knowing even if your number verified fine on your profile: the profile and the booking form apply different rules, so a number can be verified on your account and still be refused at checkout.

Codes that stop arriving altogether

There are three separate limits, and only one of them is permanent.

  • Ten codes per account per hour, and two per internet connection every ten minutes. Both clear on their own — wait and try again.

  • Five codes in total per phone number, counted for the whole life of that number. This one never resets, and it follows the number rather than the account, so opening a second account with the same phone will not get past it.

If you have used all five, nothing you can do on your side will clear it. Write to us and we will sort it out.

If it still does not arrive

Write to us at info@houfy.com from the email on your Houfy account and tell us the number you are trying to verify, including the country code, and whether you tried the phone call as well as the text. That is enough for us to see it from our side.

If you are changing a number rather than adding your first one, How do I edit my phone number on Houfy has the order to do it in — verify the new number before removing the old one.
