Connect a payment processor so guests can pay by card at checkout, with funds settling directly into your own account. Houfy supports Stripe, Square, and PayPal - connect one (or route different listings to different accounts) from Connected Payments. On Houfy you are the merchant of record: guests pay into the Stripe, Square or PayPal account you connect here, and Houfy never accepts or holds the money. This is not something a property manager or channel manager can take over: a PMS such as OwnerRez, Hostaway or Lodgify syncs your listings, rates, availability and bookings, but it does not collect payment for a Houfy booking. If no processor is connected to your Houfy account, guests reaching your payment page are shown Payment Not Available - the host has not connected a payment method yet, and cannot pay you online.

How to connect a payment processor

  1. Click your profile picture (top right) to open the menu, then click Manage Listings.

  2. In the left sidebar, click Connected Payments ("Easily accept payments on Houfy").

  3. Choose Stripe (marked "Recommended"), Square, or PayPal, and click Connect.

  4. Complete that processor's own account-linking flow.

Stripe will ask for a business website during sign-up. If you don’t have a website of your own, enter your Houfy listing page (https://www.houfy.com/lodging/ followed by your listing number) or your Houfy profile page (https://www.houfy.com/ followed by your username) - both are public pages that belong to you. If the field is left empty, Stripe keeps your account incomplete and Houfy cannot show the connection as ready.

  5. Connections are made once at the account level. If you manage multiple listings and want different listings paid out to different accounts, use Routing Rules on the same page to direct specific listings to a specific connected account.

Stripe and Square do not cover the same countries. Before you connect Square, check that Square operates in the country your business and bank account are registered in - not the country your listing is in. If it does not, your listing will still look bookable but guests will not be able to complete a card payment. One more difference to weigh before you choose: the optional guest protection add-ons, Upgrade Your Protection and CheckinHero, are only offered on the payment page when the connected processor is Stripe or Square. If you connect PayPal, guests are not shown those options, even on a listing that has them enabled.

How guest payments actually work

When a guest pays by card at checkout, the charge is created directly against your own connected Stripe/Square/PayPal account — not a Houfy-held balance. Houfy facilitates the transaction technically but does not hold or pass through your base booking revenue.

One nuance worth flagging to hosts who ask: for certain add-on charges (e.g., damage protection), Houfy deducts a small platform fee from that same transaction before it settles to you. That's a disclosed fee on that specific charge, not a pass-through of your nightly rate or total booking payout.

Funds land in your Stripe/Square/PayPal account first — the payout schedule from there to your bank is controlled by that processor, not by Houfy.

Automatic Payments (Beta)

If enabled, Houfy will automatically charge a guest's saved payment method for balances, installments, and security deposits — directly through your connected processor — instead of you sending manual payment reminders. Conditions:

  1. You've turned on the feature (toggle on the Connected Payments page).

  2. The specific listing hasn't been opted out.

  3. The guest consented to it at booking.

If any of those isn't met, the guest gets a manual payment reminder instead, same as before.

Important: if you switch your connected processor while a booking has scheduled auto-payments, those remaining charges will not carry over automatically — you'll need to collect the rest manually.

Instant Book note

Instant Book can be turned on with or without a connected payment processor — it's a separate listing setting. In practice, though, guests won't be able to complete a card payment until you've connected at least one processor, so most hosts connect one first.
