About this place

North Country Lake House - Moose

Listing description:
Escape to Moose, a cozy two-bedroom, two-bathroom lakeside apartment in North Country House, our family-run mini motel with three suites. It sleeps up to 4 and is our roomiest suite for families. Children are welcome, but no infants under 2. Enjoy lake views, vibrant sunsets, your own private deck, and the shared dock and kayaks.

Your property:
Welcome to Moose, a cozy two-bedroom, two-bathroom lakeside apartment in North Country House. It's great for families, friends or two couples. Watch for eagles, geese and beavers from the living room, kitchen and deck. Inside (all private to you): Bedroom 1 has a queen bed. Bedroom 2 has two single beds. There are two bathrooms, both with showers. The hair dryer is in the bedroom-area drawer. The coffee table lifts and flips open into a full-size dining table. You'll also find board games, Wi-Fi and a 65" 4K smart TV for your own streaming apps (no cable here). There's no washer or dryer, but there are laundromats in Littleton and Whitefield. Kitchen: refrigerator, gas range with full oven, microwave, dishwasher and a K-cup coffee maker, plus full place settings and cookware. A toaster, electric kettle and DVD player are available on request. Just message us. Heat: forced-air heat on the living-room thermostat. Feel free to set it however you like. The hallway bathroom has its own wall heater. Outside: your private deck with an umbrella, table and four chairs, and your own fire pit and charcoal grill. Bear guests walk across the deck to reach their door, but the seating is yours. Seasonal: air conditioning (June to mid-September); outdoor furniture (last snow to first snow); shared kayaks, paddle boards, grills and the dock (Memorial Day to Columbus/Indigenous Peoples' Day). Parking: one spot. Second cars go in the overflow lot. Please tell us ahead of time.

Guest access:
Private to Moose: the whole apartment, the deck seating (umbrella, table and four chairs), your fire pit and your charcoal grill. Shared: the lawn, beach, dock, bench swing, kayaks and paddle boards. Life vests fit every weight except infants, and there are 2 children's kayaks. Kayaks & paddle boards (Memorial Day–Columbus Day): We have 4 adult kayaks, 2 children's kayaks and 2 paddle boards. They hang on the side of the deck in front of the red house. Life vests for every weight except infants are in the closet in your suite. Before you paddle, fill out the release form in your suite. If it's missing, message us for a copy. Send us a photo of the signed form, then drop it in the black mailbox on the side of the deck. Please put the boats back on the rack after use. Your own boats: You're welcome to launch non-powered boats from the beach. No license is needed. Swimming: The lake is natural, with a grass beach and the dock for getting in. There's no lifeguard, so swim at your own risk. Fishing: Bass and perch are common. You'll need a valid NH fishing license. Local honor stands sell nightcrawlers in summer. Winter (about January–March): ice fishing (with a license, following local rules), snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, with trails right from the property. If you're bringing a trailer, please tell us ahead of time.

Interaction with guests:
We're Corbie and Rob, and we live on-site with our family in the neighboring duplex. We respect your privacy, but we're always nearby if you need anything. Check-in is self-guided with a keypad, and your code is sent before arrival. Check-in is 3–9 PM. Please send all messages through Houfy messages so we can reply quickly. You're welcome to adjust the heat and AC yourself. There's no need to ask.

Other details to note:
A small mini motel: North Country House has three suites: Bear, Loon and Moose. Your suite is private. The yard, beach, dock and boats are shared, and we live on-site. Kids: Children are welcome in every suite, but no infants under 2, please. Anyone under 18 must be supervised by an adult at all times, especially near the water. No visitors: Only registered guests may be on the property. Please don't have mail or packages sent here. Cancellations & date changes: We follow our cancellation policy. Date changes need at least 14 days' notice before check-in. Fire pit & firewood: Your suite has its own private fire pit. The fire pit is open year-round, 5–11 PM. Firewood is $9 a bundle (about a cubic foot) or 3 for $25. Message us and we'll bring it to you. You can pay through Houfy messages or in cash. Don't bring firewood from out of state, since that's illegal in NH. In winter, give us 24 hours' notice so we can shovel the pit out. Parking: One spot per suite, marked with a small sign with your suite's name across the dirt road by the yellow shed. Please use only your own. Extra cars or trailers go in the overflow lot at Burns Lake Farm at the top of the hill, by the yellow house, about a 5-minute walk. There are two lots there. Please use the larger one, and don't block the dumpster or the garage. Let us know before you arrive. Arriving after dark: Check-in is 3–9 PM. It's very dark here, so bring a flashlight or headlamp. Smoking: No smoking or vaping indoors. You may smoke in the parking lot only. Please don't throw butts on the ground; put them in the trash. Winter roads: We're on an unpaved road with a hill down to the property. It's plowed after every snowfall but always keeps a layer of packed snow. AWD/4WD is strongly recommended. FWD with good snow tires is usually fine. RWD isn't recommended. Sanding is $35 if you ask ahead, or $75 in an emergency. Tow trucks won't come down until the road is sanded. If you get stuck and we can't help, towing costs are the guest's responsibility. What to bring: coffee/tea, ice, a flashlight, food and drinks. Summer: beach towels, bug spray, sunscreen, charcoal. Winter: traction cleats, an ice scraper, snowshoes or skis, and skates for the King Square rink in Whitefield.

House rules:
Read full listing before booking. Some amenities are seasonal. Booking guest must stay every night. No visitors. No mail/packages. No infants under 2. Minors must be supervised at all times. Windows must stay closed November 1 through April 30. Flush only TP, no menstrual products. No grease, oil, or food down sinks. Follow host instructions, house manual & signs. Violations may mean removal, no refund.

Safety and property info:
Carbon monoxide alarm and smoke alarm installed. Nearby water (the lake). Guests must climb stairs. The property has shared spaces.

House manual:

### Parking:
Please be considerate of our neighbors and other vehicles. Each unit includes parking for one vehicle. If you need to bring additional vehicles or trailers, just let us know during the booking process. They may need to park in an overflow lot.

### Quiet Hours:
We want everyone to have a peaceful stay, so please keep noise levels down from 10 pm to 8 am. Excessive noise is always discouraged.

### Indoor Amenities:

**Heat:**
- Moose has forced-air heat, controlled by the thermostat on the living room wall.
- The hallway bathroom has an in-wall heater, controlled by a knob. Please turn it off when you leave the apartment.

**Air Conditioning:**
- Stay cool with the window air conditioner from June through mid-September.
- Please turn off the air conditioning when you're not in the apartment.

**Windows:**
- Windows must stay closed November 1 through April 30.
- Close windows when using the air conditioner.
- Close windows whenever you leave the apartment to keep heat and cool air in and prevent rain damage.

**Dishwasher:**
- Rinse dishes completely free of debris before placing them in the dishwasher.
- You'll find detergent tabs in the blue tin on the kitchen counter.
- Close the door firmly until it latches to avoid leaks.
- Please don't leave the apartment while it's running.

**Garbage & Recycling:**
- Put garbage in the kitchen trash bin, and avoid leaving trash outside to keep the wildlife away.
- Rinse all recyclables and place them in the kitchen recycling bin.

**Linens & Furniture:**
- Towels and blankets must stay inside the apartment. Beach towels are provided seasonally.
- Please don't move the furniture.

### Smoking:
- Smoking is not allowed inside the apartment.
- Please smoke in the parking lot.
- Dispose of cigarette butts properly and avoid littering on the property.

OUTDOOR AMENITIES: Your Outdoor Space: Moose's private outdoor space is the Deck. Please don't use the Stone Patio (Bear) or the Porch (Loon); those belong to other guests. Lake: The lake is a natural body of water. There is no lifeguard on duty, so swim at your own risk. Minors must be supervised by an adult at all times near the water. Fire Pit: Bring your own firewood or buy it from us: $9 per bundle or $25 for three bundles. Message us if you'd like firewood. You can pay in cash or through Houfy. Please note that it is illegal to bring out-of-state firewood into New Hampshire. Enjoy the fire pit from 5 pm to 11 pm. Keep fires no higher than two feet above the fire pit rim and never leave them unattended. Fully extinguish fires with the provided water bucket. Notify us 24 hours in advance if you wish to use the fire pit in winter so we can shovel it out. Grill: Grills are available from Memorial Day through Columbus Day weekends. Please bring your own charcoal. Keep grills at least 2 feet away from the deck, railing, or house. Clean the grill and utensils after use and cover the grill once it has cooled. Kayaks: Available from Memorial Day through Columbus Day weekends. You'll find a Release Form in your suite. If it's missing, message us for a copy. Before using the kayaks, fill out the form, send us a photo of it, then drop it in the black mailbox on the side of the deck, around the corner from the kayaks. The kayaks hang on the side of the deck in front of the red house. Return kayaks to the rack when not in use and avoid leaving them on the beach or lawn. WINTER IN THE NORTH COUNTRY: We're on Burns Lake Road, an unpaved road in the White Mountains. Several neighbors live here year-round and drive it daily, so it's easy to reach in winter. The road is well maintained and plowed after every snowfall. Because it's unpaved, it always keeps a layer of packed snow, even after plowing. AWD vehicles are strongly recommended. Front-wheel drive with good snow tires should be fine. Rear-wheel drive is discouraged. If you're not used to driving on snow, accelerate slowly, take hills at a steady pace, and keep an ice scraper in your vehicle. We can have the road sanded for $35 if you request it ahead of time. Emergency sanding costs $75. Tow trucks won't come up the road unless it has been sanded first. If needed, we can arrange parking at the top of the hill by the yellow house, a 5-minute walk from your suite. Getting stuck is rare, and we've always been able to help guests out without a tow. If we can't, guests are financially responsible for any towing or recovery costs.

Hi, I’m Corbie! After years in NYC—splitting my time between corporate life and the city’s arts and music scenes—I returned to my family’s land in New Hampshire with my husband, Rob, and together we created North Country House as a peaceful lakeside retreat. We’ve been hosting here since 2017 and started our family along the way, making this place even more special. I live on-site with my family, close by if you need us but careful to give you privacy to unwind. Whether you’re here to hike the 48 4K peaks, relax by the lake, or enjoy the view from a cozy fire pit, I’m happy to help make your stay exactly what you’re looking for.
