Information and Instructions to heat and cool Dreams Come True Cottage

Dreams Come True Cottage is a four-season vacation home, and as such, we have a number of different options for heating and cooling the home. Let's take a look at the hot and cold of it!

Heat - 1st Floor

  • The FIRST FLOOR is heated by a gas furnace. The wifi-enabled thermostat is pre-programmed for a guest's stay.
  • The thermostat is located just off the living room at the beginning of the hallway.
  • Contact Tina or Andrew if you would like the temperature schedule to be adjusted remotely, or you can adjust manually for the day.

Heat - 2nd Floor

  • The second floor is heated by zoned electric thermostats in EVERY ROOM. Feel free to set each room to your desired temperature during your stay.
  • AT CHECK-OUT all electric thermostats should be turned off EXCEPT the 2nd-floor bathroom. Please set that to 55 degrees.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: The electric thermostats on the first floor are a secondary heat source only and should remain off (the gas furnace will heat the first floor). Especially during the fringe seasons of fall and spring, using these 1st-floor electric thermostats can cause confusion/competition with the air-conditioner (the electric heat warms the room, which causes the A/C to turn on and concurrently try to cool the room). Please refrain from using the electric heat on the 1st floor to avoid this problem.

Air Conditioning - 1st Floor

  • The central air conditioning for the first floor is the same wi-fi enabled thermostat as the furnace and is pre-programmed for a guest's stay.
  • The thermostat is located just off the living room at the beginning of the hallway.

Air Conditioning - 2nd Floor

  • The central air conditioning for the 2nd floor is on a separate wi-fi enabled thermostat that is pre-programmed for a guest's stay.
  • The thermostat is located in the 2nd-floor family room.

General Air Conditioning Tips

  • Contact Tina or Andrew if you would like the temperature schedule to be adjusted remotely, or you can adjust manually for the day.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: Air conditioners should never be set more than 20 degrees cooler than the outside ambient temperature or it will risk freezing and damaging the unit. For example, if the outside temperature is 100 degrees, the air-conditioner cannot be set lower than 80 degrees.

Dehumidifier

  • Use of the dehumidifier will make your stay most comfortable in times of high humidity.
  • When in use during the peak hot and humid months, the dehumidifier tank will generally need to be emptied nearly every day. The water holding tank can be easily removed from the back of the unit.
  • Do not set the dehumidifier to the "continuous" setting.

Ceiling Fans

No matter what time of year you visit, use of the ceiling fans is a great option to keep the cottage cool and breezy. There are ceiling fans in EVERY room (except the bathrooms). Enjoy them!

Fireplace - Living Room

  • On/Off/Remote Switch: The switch for the fireplace is located above the mantel on the left side. If the pilot is lit (you should easily see it on the left side of the fireplace logs), using this switch is all you need to light the fireplace. (Select On or Remote).
  • Using The Remote: Use of the remote is optional. Point the remote directly toward the On/Off/Remote switch, make your selection and WAIT. There is a short delay after your selection is made.
  • Never leave the lit fireplace unattended. It should only be set to ON or AUTO while you are in the room.

Fireplace - Sun Porch

  • Caution. The pilot is lit and the fireplace is warm even when not in use.
  • To operate:
    • Switch the thermostat (on the wall by the sliding door) from “off” to “heat”.
    • Adjust the temperature using arrows until the fireplace lights (it will turn on and off to maintain the temperature setting).
  • You MUST turn the fireplace “OFF” when you leave the room. The heat can cause damage if set too high and unattended.
  • The fireplace is the only source of heat on the sun porch. Additionally, there is no air-conditioning on the sun porch
