Mapa is a bright, self-contained duplex steps from Jerónimos Monastery and the Tagus riverfront — one of Lisbon's most walkable, storied neighbourhoods. Self check-in means you arrive on your own clock, no waiting on anyone. Inside: a dedicated workspace, fast wifi, and calm, uncluttered rooms built for a real stay, not a hotel night. Trams, cafés, and Belém's famous pastries are all a short walk away. Our most-reviewed home — the benchmark for what a Malas a Montes stay feels like.
Your Property
The Space Mapa is a light-filled, thoughtfully designed duplex across two floors in Belém — built for guests who want a calm, well-run base and don't need to be shown around: independent travellers, remote workers, couples who'd rather explore on their own terms than follow an itinerary. Clean lines and uncluttered furnishings keep the focus on the neighbourhood itself, just outside the door.
Why Guests Love It Fast, reliable wifi and a dedicated workspace; self check-in with no fixed handover; a flexible bedroom layout that suits couples, small families, or friends; and a genuinely walkable address in one of Lisbon's most storied riverside neighbourhoods. It's also the most-reviewed home in the Malas a Montes portfolio — the benchmark for what a stay here should feel like.
Location
Step outside and Belém unfolds on foot: Jerónimos Monastery, the river promenade, MAAT, Torre de Belém, and the pastelaria queue everyone asks about. Trams into central Lisbon run close by. It's a quiet residential street with the best of the city within easy reach — the kind of location that rewards walking rather than requiring a car.
Ideal For Couples, solo travellers, and remote workers looking for a peaceful, well-located base with everything needed for a comfortable stay — and small families who don't mind a flexible sleeping layout.
Sleeping Arrangements
One bedroom upstairs: a double bed and two single beds, divided by a wardrobe rather than a full wall.
Living Area
Downstairs opens into a bright, comfortable living space with natural light throughout the day. It's a relaxed spot to plan the next day's walk, unwind after the airport, or simply sit with a coffee before heading out to explore.
Kitchen and Dining
A fully equipped kitchen sits just off the living area — everything needed to cook a proper meal or a quick breakfast before a day at the monastery. A dining spot nearby makes it easy to eat in rather than always eating out.
Bedrooms
The single bedroom upstairs holds a double bed and two single beds, divided by a wardrobe rather than a full wall — a distinctive, flexible layout that suits a couple travelling with family, or a small group of friends who don't mind sharing the airspace. Air conditioning covers the room for both summer heat and winter chill, and a dedicated desk keeps a working day here as good as any hotel room. A modern, well-kept bathroom serves the apartment, stocked with starter toiletries for your first days.
Mapa carries the most reviews in the Malas a Montes portfolio, and it's earned that record the same way every house here does: honest listings, fast communication, and a check-in that happens exactly when you land, not when someone else is free.
Guest Access
Full access to the entire apartment — kitchen, living area, both bedrooms, and workspace. Make yourself at home.
Interaction with Guests
Our brand rests on one principle above all: independence, not absence. The smart lock removes the friction of a fixed handover — it doesn't remove the host. We're currently based between Copenhagen and Leicester, hosting remotely by design, and reachable 24/7 through the Airbnb app, chat, or phone, usually within the hour. We also have friends nearby in Belém who can step in on the ground if anything needs a physical presence. You won't find us waiting at the door, but you'll never feel unattended either.
Other Details to Note
The upstairs bedroom's two single beds sit either side of a wardrobe rather than a full wall — a distinctive layout, not a divider guests should expect to be soundproof. Ideal for couples or friends travelling together who don't mind sharing airspace. The neighbourhood is quiet residential, with cafés, restaurants, and Lisbon's landmark sights close by.
Additional Rules
The Obvious
Take care of the house as you would your own, and leave everything where you found it. No food or drinks on the sofa. No smoking inside (including vaping). No unregistered guests, no parties. Turn off the air conditioning when you leave or when windows are open.
Checking Out
Return furniture and décor to their original place. Dispose of all waste — including anything left in the fridge or pantry — in the street containers; glass goes in the container near the school. Close all windows and doors before you go.
Local Laws
As required by Portuguese law, we ask all guests for personal ID data, which is reported to the local authorities.
Post/Use of Address
This is a short-term rental — please don't use the address for post, correspondence, or official matters. Arrange any deliveries through courier during your stay.
Long Stays
For stays of 30 days or more, please be mindful of electricity use. Consumption above 350 kWh/month is charged in addition to the monthly fee.
Insects & Wildlife
Lisbon's warm, green pockets come with the occasional mosquito, gnat, or lovebug depending on the season. We run regular pest control but can't promise a guarantee — keeping doors closed and food stored away helps keep it that way.
Check-in Method / Smart Lock Instructions
Mapa runs on a smart lock rather than physical keys — arrival happens whenever you land, with no handover to schedule.
Before arrival (primary guest):
1. Download the Danalock CLASSIC app — Google Play · App Store
2. Sign in → Create an account → enter your email → set your password (twice)
3. Activate both key links (Street and Upstairs), sent the day before arrival
At Casa do Mapa:
1. Casa do Mapa – Street link opens the downstairs door (brown door on the street)
2. Casa do Mapa – Upstairs link opens the upstairs door (to the left as you go up)
3. Green padlock opens the door · Red padlock closes it
Sharing keys: the primary guest sets up the account and installs the key; other guests download the app and sign in with the same email and password — everyone shares one key, and any changes carry through to all.
For smooth entry: keep Bluetooth on, and keep your phone's OS and the Danalock app updated.
