The Rua Augusta Arch, one of Lisbon’s magnificent landmarks, was built to commemorate the city’s reconstruction after the 1755 earthquake.

When admiring this masterpiece it is not difficult to understand why the arch was only officially completed in 1875….

Make sure to climb up the arch for unique views of Baixa and the Tagus river, leaving Lisbon at your feet, literally. One of the best 360º views  Lisbon has to offer!

Visits: daily between 9 am – 8 pm (9 pm during summer) – entrance fee 3 EUR.

2. Alfama and Castelo São Jorge

Must visit in Lisbon!

Located on the highest of Lisbon’s seven hills, the Castelo de São Jorge is the city’s most visited attraction, and perhaps its most impressive one, if not for the building itself at least for its position with many viewpoints offering majestic and unparalleled views of Lisbon and the Tejo river. Built in the mid-11th century, this fortification still retains eleven towers displaying various architectural features characteristic of military fortifications from the Moorish period.

The easiest way to access the Castle is via the new escalator leaving from Martim Moniz or via the elevator in front of metro exit Baixo Chiado and then switch to the next elevator in the Pingo Doce store.

Visits: daily between 9 am-9 pm during summer and from 9 am – 6 pm during winter.

3. Elevador de Santa Justa (Santa Justa lift)

Must visit in Lisbon!

The Santa Justa Lift is a 45 m tall ironwork elevator built in 1902 to connect the Carmo Square with the lower streets of Baixa. It is the fastest way to get from the Baixa neighbourhood to the Bairro Alto district. At the time, this lift was a major innovation and a symbol of the Industrial Age throughout Europe.

With time, the lift has evolved from a functional machine to become a unique attraction. The Lift has a stunning observation deck at the top and offers magnificent views over Baixa. Since it was opened to the public, it has become one of the most popular viewpoints in Lisbon.

Visits: daily between 7 am-11 pm during summer and from 7 am – 10 pm during winter. Return ticket: 5,15 EUR | TIP : avoid the long lines and walk your way up to the Carmo Convent from where you can access the top platform for free via a staircase! Check the amazing view here!

Must visit in Lisbon!

Lx Factory symbolizes the recent evolution of Lisbon into the European capital of innovation and creativity. What once was an ugly abandoned industrial area of Lisbon has turned into a creative hub for artists, entrepreneurs and anyone seeking urban street vibes.

This creative hotspot under the 25 de Abril Bridge in  Alcantara is now the home of design companies, art galleries, artist studios and a variety of funky restaurants, hipster shops, bookshops and fashion outlets. Great to visit any day of the week! On Sunday it is more crowded as there is the weekly flea market where you can find vintage and local designer clothes, handmade jewellery, fresh food, live music, a great laid back atmosphere! Check the vibe here!

Around sunset make sure to follow the signs for the Rio Maravilha bar on the 4th floor, grab a drink and enjoy the fantastic views over the Tejo river and the 25 de Abril Bridge.
