What is the best souvenir to remind you of your Alaska vacation? Local art of course! The Girdwood Center for Visual Arts gallery is next door to The Bakeshop and just across the parking lot from Alyeska North Ski Condo. More than 30 Alaskan artists have amazing artwork for sale in this non-profit gallery at all price points. Whether it&#x27;s a mug from a local potter, jewelry, or photography you want to bring home to keep Alaska close to your heart, the GCVA gallery has something for you. We have a sweet little collection of mugs from local potters for you to savor your coffee from in the condo, but you can take one home too if you pick one up from the gallery before you go!

You might have figured out by now that part of the Alyeska North Ski Condo experience is food and fun in Girdwood. Just a heads up, you will likely never be able to reserve our condo during Girdwood Forest Fair (only because we&#x27;re almost always using it ourselves), keep searching for a place to hang for the weekend because it&#x27;s one of the best times to experience this hippie ski town at it&#x27;s finest. Yes indeed, the Forest Fair truly is being sued for it&#x27;s &quot;no dogs, no politics, no religious orders&quot; policy. But it is the finest means to see peace, art &amp; music in Alaska. Local art vendors, live bands, food booths and endless side shows are all a part of this hippie fest the weekend starting the first Friday in July.

One of the most well known is The Bake Shop and it&#x27;s just a short walk across the parking lot from our Alyeska North Ski Condo. Winter or summer it&#x27;s the place to go for breakfast and lunch. It&#x27;s worth the wait year round for fresh homemade sourdough bread, a classic sweet roll, or soup &amp; a bun. In the summer they have pizza&#x27;s &amp; ice cream till 6 or 7 p.m. If you have already experienced The Bake Shop you might be both surprised and happy to find out they take credit cards and the staff is remarkably friendly now that the new owners have taken over. They have a bit of a learning curve to keep up with the amazing summer garden established by the previous owners over 40 plus years, but they have food service &amp; quality down pat. Just down the hill from our Alyeska North ski condo is the fabulous Jack Sprat&#x27;s.  It&#x27;s literally a 300 or so step walk from the door

Just down the hill from our &quot;Alyeska North Ski Condo&quot; is the fabulous Jack Sprat&#x27;s. It&#x27;s literally a 300 or so step walk from the door of our condo to one of the best meals you&#x27;ll have in Girdwood (maybe in Alaska). You might even have a couple of meals there because breakfast is as wonderful and easy as dinner. It&#x27;s a cozy, quirky and quaint, just like you&#x27;d expect in Girdwood. We&#x27;ve been going since it was just a tiny dining room with 6 or so tables. They&#x27;ve added on twice since those days and they still have every bit of the character and quality. The small menu doesn&#x27;t change much, but they put twists on things depending on what is fresh. They generally have a halibut or salmon special in the summer, in the winter the fish of the day is served in a heavenly bouillabaisse. We have our regular favorites - Danny usually has the cavatelli with Italian sausage and Michelle waivers between the bibimbap and the fish special. For breakfast Michelle usually has the Red Flannel Hash or bibimbap (again) and Danny tends to stick to The Usual. I&#x27;m sure you&#x27;ll have a favorite there too! PS - carry out a dessert or two and pick up wine (or port!) from La Bodega on your way back to the condo.

We live full time in Anchorage, Alaska and plan to spend more time each year at our home in Hunt, Texas. We love weekends both summer and winter at our condo in Girdwood, Alaska. When we retire to our house in Texas, we'll be reverse snowbirds. Winters skiing in Alaska, and summers in Texas. What are we thinking?
