When you board the ferry for the 20-minute ride to Bald Head Island, you leave your car behind, along with the stress of the mainland world. Transportation here is limited to golf carts, bikes, or your own two feet… resulting in a more relaxed, easy-going pace. Stroll 14 miles of pristine beaches, try your luck on the acclaimed seaside golf course, eat at fabulous restaurants, or climb a 200 year old lighthouse. It is a place like no other, where you can relax, unwind, and adjust to "Turtle Time" living.

The Defense Rests is a reverse floor plan home with amazing ocean views from the bright and spacious open floor plan second floor, which steps out on to a deck with rocking chairs, views for miles, and perfect sunset viewing. The newly renovated kitchen is well-stocked with everything you could need for family dining or low country boils. The second floor also features a separate office/media room perfect for the kids to watch a movie or play a video game, or mom or dad to work remotely. On the first floor, enjoy three beautifully appointed bedrooms, an open front deck, and a screened in back porch. The crofter apartment above the garage has a beautiful bedroom, bathroom, and kitchenette. Our home is just a short walk or bike ride to the beach, or a golf cart ride (on one of the two golf carts included with your rental) to 16 other unspoiled beaches, preserved maritime forests and marsh hiking trails. We provide 2 kayaks and 4 or more bicycles to enable you to discover the beauty of the island.

We are members of both the Bald Head Island Golf, Tennis and Swim Club and the Shoals Beach and Swim Club. Because we have found that some of our guests would prefer a lower rental rate and don't use a club, and some guests prefer one club to the other, or want both, we have set our weekly rates to not include a club with your rental so that we can customize your stay for what you want. However, you can arrange a temporary membership directly with the clubs, subject to weekly membership caps. The BHI Club includes an award-winning golf course (green fees not included), tennis courts, a wonderful pool complex, a "splash park" for the little ones, a state of the art gym, and formal, informal and poolside dining. The Shoals Club is located at East Beach in a superb ocean side setting. It offers both a main pool and smaller child's pool with beautiful ocean views, as well as complementary beach chairs and umbrellas. Informal pool side and restaurant dining are available. NOTE: Temporary club memberships may be limited during peak seasons -- if this is an important amenity to you we recommend you secure several months in advance.
