Wake up to birdsong, sheep in the paddocks below, and a sky full of stars. Blue Spur Farmstay is an eco-friendly, off-grid home on a 75-acre working farm — a genuine West Coast experience, not just a place to sleep.
Your private bedroom looks out over native bush and farmland. The bathroom is private (and usually just yours). There's no guest kitchen, but Hokitika's cafes and restaurants are only 10 minutes away — and we'll point you to the best ones.
The space
You'll have a large, character-filled bedroom with a queen bed. Tea and plunger coffee are set up in your room, along with a small fridge, TV with chromecast, and plenty of West Coast reading material.
Step outside and the farm is yours to explore. Walk the property, feed the sheep, and follow the Secret Trail — a winding path through native bush. From the front garden you can catch glimpses of the Tasman Sea. When the sun goes down, the lack of light pollution here makes for exceptional stargazing.
We're a proper family home, so you'll be welcomed — not just checked in.

Add on: Campfire & S'mores Experience
Build a fire, cook outdoors, and eat s'mores under the stars. This is genuinely one of our guests' favourite things — book it when you reserve your room (weather permitting, additional charge applies).
About the property
Our home runs entirely on solar power, and our water is collected rainwater from the roof. You'll barely notice the difference — the WiFi is fast and you can charge everything — but we don't use microwaves, electric toasters, or hairdryers. We appreciate you embracing the eco experience.
A few things to know: no guest kitchen (outdoor camp kitchen may be available if no campers are staying — ask us), and we make up only the beds you need to keep laundry and waste to a minimum.
The property is 5 minutes to the beach and 10 minutes to town. We're LGBTQI+ friendly and have been hosting on the West Coast for over 11 years.
We'd love to have you — see you at the farm!
One more thing
Our top tip for visiting NZ: travel insurance. As a small family business, we can't cover unexpected events like flight delays or road closures — but a good travel insurance policy can. Enjoy the trip!
