One of the best-kept local secrets is the water taxi from Tamarindo across the estuary to Playa Grande. It's a short, scenic ride that connects you directly to Tamarindo's restaurants, shops, ATMs, supermarkets, and nightlife without the drive — a favorite among guests once they discover it.
For driving, Tamarindo is about 30 minutes south. The town of Santa Cruz is roughly 45 minutes inland for bigger errands. Liberia International Airport (LIR) is about an hour away. The main roads in and out of Playa Grande are paved, so a standard rental car works fine.
