Cozy Cabin in the Heart of the High Country
Welcome to Grandfather's Shadow vacation rental cabin. The cabin is a 2 bedroom 2 bath cabin with all you need for a getaway to the Appalachian Mountains. The cabin is appointed with washer, dryer, fully equipped kitchen with full size oven and refrigerator, tankless hot water, wifi, and two queen beds.
At the cabin, sit on the deck and enjoy the sounds of the Watauga River as you relax amongst the trees and breathe the fresh mountain air. Curl up with a good book and enjoy being away from all the stress of daily life.
In the winter skiing, snowboarding, and tubing are high on the list over at Sugar and Beech mountains. In the spring and summer fly fishing trips, white water rafting trips, mining for gemstones and of course Tweetsie Railroad are great to experience. Of course, don't forget hiking! There are numerous hikes for all skill levels nearby. Not feeling so adventurous? There are wonderful independent boutiques and larger stores for shopping til you drop. Don't forget to stop by the Original Mast General Store and the Candy Barrel located in Valle Crucis just a short drive away.
Looking for a winery or local brewery? Look no further than the high country! We highly recommend Grandfather Winery located just a mile down Hwy 105 and Banner Elk Brewery located approximately 15 minutes away. Breweries abound in Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk. There are beers and cider to make everyone happy. All of the wineries and breweries are leashed dog friendly too!
The cabin is located in Mill Ridge Resorts between Banner Elk and Boone. Mill Ridge also boasts a pool (open May to Sept), tennis courts, and hiking trails. The community is also an easy drive to Blowing Rock, West Jefferson, Linville as well as to the Blue Ridge Parkway. You will never want for something to do in the High Country.

There is NO smoking inside of the house. If smoking inside is detected there will be an additional $100.00 cleaning fee added. If you smoke outside please clean up after yourself. Any cigarette butts, cigar ends, etc will be subject to additional fees.

There are 2 parking places available at the cabin. If additional spaces are needed they must have approval from homeowner. Homeowner will make sure accommodations are okayed by Mill Ridge prior to additional cars arrival.
Meet the Host
Hello! I manage Grandfather's Shadow Cabin for my mother. My parents purchased the cabin in 2007 and have loved it since. I am not a stranger to the mountains of NC. I spent my first Christmas just down the street from Grandfather's Shadow. My grandparents lived just up the mountain in Mill Ridge for years. I spent many summers with my siblings and cousins making trails through the woods of Mill Ridge. I am most at peace in the mountains. I sincerely hope you will be too when you stay at our cabin.
I currently live in North GA in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and my mom lives just outside of Atlanta. We have good contacts and help in the Banner Elk area if you are in need of help. So rest assured that you will enjoy your time in the mountains.
