Website domain setup guide

Houfy has two kinds of websites, and they connect a custom domain in different ways. Find the section that matches your website below.

Which one do I have?

AI-powered websites — built with the Houfy AI Website Builder (the newer builder). You connect your domain inside the website editor, and Houfy shows you the exact records to add.

Classic websites — the older Houfy website. It points to Houfy's server IP address (52.38.84.108).

Option 1 — AI-powered websites (Houfy AI Website Builder)

1. Your domain connects from inside the website editor, and Houfy generates the exact DNS records for your domain.

2. Open your website in the editor and go to Domains (under Settings).

3. Click Connect existing domain, enter your domain (for example, your-domain.com), and click Next. Houfy shows the exact DNS records for your domain. Copy them exactly as shown.

4. Sign in to your domain provider, open your DNS settings, and add those records. Before saving, remove any old A or AAAA record on the root (@) and any old www record.

5. Back in Houfy, click Verify DNS.

For reference, an AI-powered website uses these two records. If the screen shows something different, use what the screen shows.

• Root domain (your-domain.com) - CNAME, name www, value sites.houfy.space (note the s on the end of sites); plus an A record, name @ (root), value 35.163.236.121, which forwards the bare domain to the www address with SSL.

• Subdomain (stay.your-domain.com) - CNAME, name stay, value sites.houfy.space.

A root domain cannot point at a CNAME, which is why the root uses an A record. Before saving, remove any existing A or AAAA record on the root and any old www record. Leaving the previous host's records in place is the most common reason a domain keeps resolving to the old site.

Important: Use only the records Houfy shows you on this screen. AI-powered websites do not use the 52.38.84.108 server IP — that address is only for classic websites (Option 2). Your secure padlock (SSL) is added automatically once the records are live.

Option 2 — Classic websites

Classic websites point to Houfy's server IP address.

Before you begin, you'll need:

Login for your domain provider (GoDaddy, Google Domains, Amazon Route 53, etc.)

The Houfy IP address: 52.38.84.108

 Step 1 — Change your DNS records at your provider

• A record — name @ (root) → value 52.38.84.108

• CNAME record — name www → value your-domain.com

You can have only one A record on a domain. If one already exists, edit it to point to 52.38.84.108. Remove any AAAA record, and remove any extra A records so only the Houfy one remains.

Step 2 — Connect your domain in Houfy

Edit your website → select Domains from the left menu → Connect existing domain → enter your-domain.com → Next → Verify connection.

For both options

DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours, depending on your provider. Lowering your domain's TTL can make it update faster. Once verified, your domain goes live automatically with SSL.
