How to Propose Payment Plan for reservations on Houfy
Last updated August 24, 2026
The Payment Plan feature allows hosts and guests to agree on splitting the remaining reservation balance into multiple payments. Either party can initiate a proposal, and the other must approve before the plan takes effect.
How It Works
For Hosts:
On the reservation details page, click "Propose Payment Plan to Guest" to open the proposal form. You can use Quick Split to automatically divide the balance into 2, 3, or 4 equal payments with evenly spaced due dates leading up to check-in.
Once you review and send the proposal, the guest receives a notification and can approve or decline it.
For Guests:
On the reservation details page, click "Request Payment Plan" to send a payment plan request to your host. The same options are available — quick split or custom amounts and dates. You can include a message for the host. The host will review and approve or decline your request.
Proposal Details
- Quick Split options: 2, 3, or 4 equal payments automatically calculated
- Custom payments: Set your own amounts and due dates for each installment
- The total of all payments must equal the remaining balance
- Due dates - Quick Split spreads the payments evenly between today and the day before check-in. If you set custom dates, any future date can be chosen, so check your dates fall before check-in.
- An optional note or message can be included with the proposal
Key Points
- Both hosts and guests can initiate a payment plan proposal
- Mutual approval is required — no payments are activated until the other party agrees
- Once approved, the guest can make payments manually or they can be processed as scheduled charges
- All payment amounts and dates are visible to both parties before approval
- The feature is available when there is a remaining balance on a confirmed reservation
Removing a payment plan
If a plan is active and there is still a balance to collect, the host sees a Remove Payment Plan button in the same section of the reservation page. Removing it cancels all upcoming instalments and the reservation goes back to the normal balance-due flow. Only the host can do this.
