Sunrise/Sunset Photography
At Tiki House, the sunrise and sunset views depends on the time of year. In the summer, the view tends to be more on the bay side (north) and in the winter the sun rises and sets over the Gulf in the south.
If you are looking for the perfect bay side view, check out the access directly opposite of our beach access. Follow the side walk next to Tiki House, north. But give yourself plenty of time. Or try on of the many bay side restaurants. But be forewarned! These are the most desirable places to eat at sunset!
If you are looking for great places to shoot a picture on the Gulf, you almost can't go wrong. The sun kisses the Gulf good night and there is hardly a bad spot to shoot from. Here is a list of popular spots for sunsets, but work just as well for sunrise.
If you need some tips for getting the perfect shot, there are several sites. You can even take classes from professionals to help you out.
1. Plan ahead - give yourself plenty of time to set up, choose your spot, and scout out interesting angles or things to silhouette in your photo. The water is a great place to reflect the colors and increase the drama of your sunrise or sunset.
2. Include silhouettes and other items for interest. A sunset can have great color and interest, but that can be enhanced by a bird, a tree, even a sandcastle.
3. Take more, and more, and more shots. You may find the colors in one are better, but the angles in another are better. And you never know what happy accident can happen. A bird flies by, a cloud drifts just right, or another random event can mean you have the perfect picture to remember the day, place, and occasion by.
4. Turn around. Sometime the sunset shot just isn't working out. Turn around and check out the coming night behind you. The colors may be different, while clouds and other objects can reflect the setting sun to dramatic effect. Or look down and capture how the angle of the sun lights the sand, shells or water.
5. It's not over 'til it's over! Sometimes the best shot is the last one. Hang in there until the end.
