Why do larger properties have stricter reservation, payment & cancellation policies?

Última atualização 28 de agosto de 2026

Larger properties booked for family or group gatherings usually require stricter policies.

Owners and managers often want:

  • A larger reservation deposit due - 50% or more at the time of booking

  • An earlier balance payment date - 60 to 90 days before arrival

  • And stricter cancellation terms

Rebooking a large property at short notice takes far more effort than rebooking a small one, which is why the terms are usually tighter.

On Houfy you set all of this yourself, per listing.

  1. Go to Manage Listings, click Edit on the listing, then in the left menu click Settings and click Payment & Policies. (Direct link: houfy.com/edit-listing/YOUR-LISTING-ID/payment-information)

  2. The sections on this page start closed, so click a heading to open it.

  3. Payment Policy holds both money questions. Choose Full Payment (100% at booking) or Deposit + Balance. If you choose Deposit + Balance, set the deposit under Initial Deposit as a percentage or a fixed amount, then set Balance Due - 7, 10, 14, 30, 45, 60 or 90 days before check-in, or Custom for any other number of days.

  4. Cancellation Policy holds the refund terms, including the Policy Tiers that decide how much a guest gets back depending on how far ahead they cancel.
