The Snug Owl has a steel fire pit for relaxing after hiking, eagle watching, antiquing, and wine tasting. A small bundle of firewood is provided at no charge.
Light and bright kitchen in shades of cream and gray with stainless steel accents and appliances. Coffee is provided for the drip coffeemaker and there is an electric water kettle for tea.
The small sofa in the living area can be pulled out to sleep 1. Please let us know if you’re traveling with a pup so we can provide a soft slipcover for sofa snuggles. Max total occupancy for the home is 2 people and 2 dogs. No cats, please.

The Snug Owl now features an electric fireplace for your dog’s enjoyment. There is a “no heat” setting if you just want the ambiance without the heat.
Stream your favorite shows on the 43 inch HD SmartTV while enjoying coffee, tea, or hot chocolate at the bar height kitchen island. An electric water kettle, french press, and drip coffeemaker are provided.
The kitchen has full size stainless appliances and a microwave, toaster, blender, electric water kettle, and coffeemaker.
Bathroom with tub/shower. Compact washer/dryer located in the bathroom alcove. The guest washer is small capacity and for your use. All towels and linens, including quilts and shams, are changed out between guests and washed in commercial machines.

Snug Owl Cottage has a crushed shell driveway. Guests will have to walk a short path and climb a few steps to enter. Please park off the street, especially in winter so plows can get through. Please note the yard is NOT FULLY FENCED on all sides.

You can rent bicycles from the stand outside the Lock 16 Cafe and I&M Canal Visitor Information Center at the corner of First Street and Joliet Street (IL HWY 351) in Downtown LaSalle. Maps and visitor information brochures are available inside.

The sleep space is small, so walking around the end of the bed isn’t possible. The tiny home has one Queen Stearns & Foster bed in the sleep area. Bedding includes cotton sheets and cotton/linen quilted blankets with a warm duvet added in winter.

Warm up after your hike with a hot chocolate and a game of Super Scrabble or some TV in front of the electric fireplace. Guests are welcome to stream the Snug Owl Peacock or Netflix apps on the Vizio SmartTV.
The bathroom has a tub/shower combo and a small capacity washer and dryer just for guest use. All linens are cleaned by our crew off-site in heavy duty machines. Linen and towel refresh service is available for stays of 5 nights or longer.
Amenities inside the wardrobe include a hair dryer, magnifying makeup mirror, bedding for the sofa, a small fan, a clothing iron, and a blackout curtain for the front door. The top part has a rod and clothes hangers for guest use.

We are dog friendly. The yard is not fully fenced, but the neighborhood is very nice for walking. Sorry, no other types of animals accepted. There is NO PET FEE for up to two dogs, but please tell us if you are bringing a dog so we can supply appropriate amenities and furniture covers. Dogs must be on flea and tick prevention, current on rabies vaccines, and well behaved.

Welcome to The Illinois Valley and Starved Rock Country! Relax and feel the Hygge after a day at the parks in your own dog-friendly comfortable tiny house with an electric fireplace. Snug Owl Cottage is just minutes away from popular hiking destinations Starved Rock State Park (7.7 miles) and Matthiessen State Park (8.6 miles.) Historic Downtown LaSalle shops and restaurants are about a mile away. The Snug Owl has its own private city lot and backyard with a fire pit and outdoor seating.This vintage tiny home has a “cabin in the city” feel at 400 square feet with one queen bed in the sleeping area. An open plan makes it feel more spacious with a partial wall dividing the queen bed in the sleeping area from the living area. The kitchen and living area are open to each other and only separated by a bar-height island. The cottage was built in 1945, but the WiFi and HD SmartTV are very up to date.

Getting around

You will need a car to visit the parks and get around, or you can bike 7.7 miles using the canal towpath to Starved Rock State Park. The neighborhood is pedestrian and bicycle friendly. Downtown LaSalle (1 mile down the hill toward the river) is a short drive or bicycle ride, but it is a bit steep coming back! The I&M Canal towpath is a great place for bicyclists and runners. Locals often ride the towpath (about 5 miles) to nearby Utica to have lunch or visit a wine tasting room. Bicycle rental is available in warmer months at the corner of 351 and First Street in downtown LaSalle, outside the I&M Canal Visitor Information Center and Lock 16 Cafe.
