Snow in the North Carolina Mountains?

Travelers often hope to see snow when taking a winter vacation in the North Carolina Mountains. Pecan Grove BnB is nestled between Raleigh and Fayetteville in the quaint town of Lillington.

National Park Service

First check the National Park Service website for current weather alerts, and possible road and facility closures. Here is the real-time road closure map view.

1) Moonshine Mountain Snow Tubing Park,
Hendersonville

Drive time: 4 hours

This is the closest attraction to the cabin if you would like to go snow tubing. Most likely this will be fake snow. Be sure to bring cash. They do have an onsite ATM. Ingles grocery near the cabin will give cash back up to $100 with a debit card purchase of any amount. Stop there first if you are low on cash.

2) Cataloochee Ski Area, Maggie Valley

Drive time: 4 hours and 25 minutes

Drive time: 4 hour and 30 minutes

Drive Carefully

Have fun but drive carefully. It's imperative to be aware of black ice! Roads may be clear in the morning, but have black ice on your return trip back to the cabin.

Take special precaution when driving around the Girl Scout Camp Lake on Girl Scout Camp Road. This is the road that runs right next to the Ingles Grocery in Lake Lure, just 1.5 miles from the cabin.
