Leavenworth is famous for it's pretzels and bratwurst

Waterfront park trail

 is a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Leavenworth. It winds along the Wenatchee river and through the forest. There are benches for sitting along the way and interpretive trail signs. There is a playground for kids. The trees turn bright gold and red in the fall. You can access it two ways 1) by walking past the Blackbird Lodge on commercial street down a steep short hill where you'll see the trail on your left. The trail winds behind the Post Hotel. It connects to black bird island or the park. 2) by driving down 9th street past the Loge Leavenworth downtown, turning left on main and following the narrow roadway which seems like a back alley down towards the parking lot. This parking lot is not very big but is a nice access point.

Waterfront park trail in October

 is only 2 miles away from Big Ponderosa. It has a play structure, beach area, trails and beautiful colorful display of leaves mirrored in the crystal blue glacier waters. It's stunning and a great place for small children. You will need a Washington State Discover Pass for parking or pay the daily park fee at the pay station.

 is the scenic drive along hwy 2 towards Leavenworth. Here you'll see the pull off picnic areas next to the river where you can view towering cliffs and the rushing water. The Tumwater Pipeline Trail offers a scenic easy walk. It is a sharp turn off from the hwy on your right side as you drive East on hwy 2. The turn off is in between mile post 97 and 98.

Fall activities

Oktoberfest is celebrated the first three weekends of October. You will find lively music in the main town square, art in the park and more. Stroll the streets, visit the boutique shops and stop in the bakery on main street for a pretzel.

We live in the greater Seattle area with our two children. We love the outdoors and have traveled all over the world as a family. We enjoy many activities such as hiking, skiing, golfing and relaxing by the beach.
