The Hemlock Homeplace — A Cozy, Historic Cabin Getaway
Step back into a simpler pace of life in our historic log cabin, originally built around 1910. Portions of the original cabin and its logs remain today, while later additions provide extra bedrooms, bathrooms, and living space. We’ve kept the decor comfortable and cottage-inspired, preserving the character of this special old home while providing modern conveniences.
The main living area features a wood-burning fireplace, sofa, loveseat, and two recliners, along with gas heat for added comfort. Upstairs, the spacious loft has two queen beds, two twin beds, plus a separate sitting area with a loveseat and two recliners—giving families and groups plenty of room to gather or spread out.
The cabin is fully stocked for your stay and includes a full-size washer and dryer. For warmer weather, there is a window A/C unit upstairs and a portable A/C unit downstairs. As a historic home, the cabin does not have central air conditioning, but is comfortably managed with current heat and A/C options.
A Cabin With a Story
This is more than a cabin made to *look* historic—it has been home to generations of Appalachian families. During your stay, we hope you’ll take some time to read the spiral-bound memoir written by Mildred Rogers Woods, who grew up in this very cabin, sharing her memories of life and Appalachian culture. It’s a wonderful glimpse into the history of the home and the people who lived here.
The cabin sits in a peaceful setting with plenty of breathing room, making it a lovely place to slow down, enjoy your morning coffee, gather around the fireplace, and spend time together.
A Few Things to Know
This is an authentic historic cabin, not a newly built home designed to look old. We’ve worked to preserve its original character while adding the comforts and conveniences that make it a welcoming place to stay.
Please note that cell service may be minimal, and there is no landline phone, internet, or cable/satellite TV. We consider that part of the cabin’s charm—a rare opportunity to unplug, slow down, and reconnect with family and friends without the usual distractions.
The cabin also has stairs and is not specifically childproofed or equipped with permanent baby gates. Children and infants are welcome, but parents and guardians are responsible for close supervision and should bring any baby gates or other safety equipment appropriate for their child.
If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway with genuine history, cottage charm, a wood-burning fireplace, room to gather, and the comforts of home, we’d love to have you stay.
