About this place

Mountain and lake views in the heart of the Kern River Valley

Welcome to Black Bear Riviera, your Hibernation HQ. Unwind in the hot tub with sweeping views of the Sierra Nevadas & Lake Isabella. Serenity abounds with the quiet sounds of nature and babbling waters of seasonal Tillie Creek mere steps away. Begin and end your day at the "Bear Bar" combo coffee & cocktail station. Vintage charm and modern amenities provide all you need to relax and revitalize after a day of hiking, white water rafting, skiing or exploring local shops & attractions.

The cabin is situated on a 1 acre lot, tucked away from the main road. There is a large screened in porch with a spacious dining table and a seating area. Perfect for taking in the views including deer on the regular! Laze around the outdoor gas fire pit or have a soak in the hot tub while star gazing. The post and beam cabin was built in 1965 with vaulted ceilings and tons of charm. Oversized sliders extend the view into the cabin. On colder days, the pellet stove adds extra warmth and cozy cabin ambiance. The newer swamp cooler and additional AC unit in the loft keep the cabin nice and cool on hot summer days.

The kitchen has all the amenities to cook and entertain at the cabin! The "Bear Bar" is a combo coffee & cocktail station. Pick your poison! We've got you covered. Other amenities include a record player and blue tooth speakers. There's an eclectic selection of vinyl or bring your favorite LPs to play or stream your tunes digitally. There's a large flat screen tv and wifi for streaming. There's also a DVD player with a collection of "bear themed" movies because... we are in bear country.

There are three main sleeping areas with fresh linens, comforters and in colder months, plush Pendleton throws. Bedroom #1 is a spacious loft with a newly renovated half bath, new memory foam queen bed and reading nook. It's accessed via a staircase (not a ladder!). This is where you'll find board games and extra blankets. The second bedroom on the main floor has a double bed, reading nook and sliders to the side deck. The third bedroom is the smallest with a twin bed and is accessed via the second bedroom. This is where you'll find an acoustic guitar should you feel inspired.

The main bathroom on the ground floor has a shower/tub combo. A new tankless water heater and great water pressure equals nice hot showers! Ample towels, shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided.

The location is convenient and easy to get to; 6 minutes to Kernville, minutes to Lake Isabella and 20 minutes to Alta Sierra Ski Resort. Or make the cabin your base camp for day trips to Remmington hot springs or Trail of 100 Giants (open spring - autumn, check seasonal road closures before you go).

Pretty much all one needs for a true hibernation destination!

Guest access
All areas of the cabin are accessible except for the garage.

Other things to note
Safety and comfort is our top priority during your stay. Please note before you book:

-The staircase to the loft is a little steep and may prove challenging for persons with limited mobility or small children.

-The 1 acre property abuts the seasonal creek. Please be mindful of slippery rocks and steep slopes. Explore at your own risk and do not allow children near the creek unsupervised.

-When operated correctly (following instructions provided), the cabin's existing heating and cooling systems keep it sufficiently comfortable year round. There is no central heat or air. This is a cabin!

-Maximum 4 guests allowed due to the septic system. This includes children. No exceptions thank you.

Owning a little slice of nature has been a lifelong dream, and sharing my mid-century cabin with fellow nature lovers is both a privilege and a joy. When I’m not enjoying the peace and beauty of this special place, you’ll find me with my co-pilot, Patrick, and our two mischievous kitties, Smokey & Bandit.

Getting around

The cabin is on a flag lot with a very long driveway. Look for the black mailbox with white numbers 253. You will drive past a house on the right, keep going until you see the red and black cabin at the end of the drive. Google Maps sometimes sends people to Wildwood Rd which is one driveway past the cabin. 253 Evans is less than a minute from the turn off to Alta Sierra on Hwy 158 on the left hand side.
