About this place

Large Historic Country House, originally a Gentilhommière (Gentleman's home)built in 1879, in a small rural hamlet on the Limousin/Dordogne boarder.

This beautiful house was built in 1786, three years before the French Revolution and three years after the end of the American Revolutionary War, It has lots of history and it has a few quirks.

The main house has six bedrooms and four bathrooms, the adjacent house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The house is full of character and we have tried to decorate and furnish the accommodation with appropriate pieces, but nothing that is antique or precious, so that guests can feel at home rather than needing to worry about how they use the house. Its a holiday home with large comfortable divan beds, not small french ones, we feel that people need to get a good nights sleep when they are on holiday.

The main house has room for a large party to socialise, the beautiful large kitchen has a range cooker and two dishwashers, as well as a large fridge, microwave etc.

As well as all the modern conveniences, there is the original flagstone floor and the bread oven in the kitchen fireplace. This is available for you to use if you wish. It was originally used by the house and local area, people would bring their bread to the big house to be baked. It’s great for pizza and if you want to make your own dough there is a dough hook on the moulinex.

We are in a rural area, there’s lots of wildlife, little lizards dart about, bats and owls fly at night. You may see deer in the morning and evening, we have some toads in the pool area.

The night sky can be sensational, so we only have minimal outdoor lighting, it also doesn’t attract too many insects.

There is a new artisan food shop in La Chapelle, it’s only open on Thursday and Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. It’s worth a visit, you could even cycle though the woods !

The barn is a great space, it’s shady and cool when it’s hot. There is a fridge for beers or whatever you wish. There are darts, table tennis, badminton, boule and various footballs as well as a selection of bicycles for exploring the countryside.

The private pool is heated by an air source heat pump, if you cover it at night with the bubble cover it helps to retain the heat.

The rear terrace, west facing, has a large (5.5 metre) table for al fresco dining, we have two large charcoal barbecues.

We have local lakes with beaches for family days out, places for lunch, water-sports etc

We try to tread gently on the earth, recycling where possible, respecting the wildlife and our neighbours.

We hope you will love the place as much as we do, relax and enjoy the area.
