Pet-Friendly Vacation Rentals in Carlton Landing: 3 Homes Where You Can Bring Your Dog
If you've ever wanted to bring your dog with you on a Carlton Landing getaway but weren't sure where you could stay, this episode is for you.
Finding a pet-friendly vacation rental in Carlton Landing, Oklahoma can be a little harder than you might expect. There are quite a few beautiful vacation homes in town, but not all of them allow pets. And if your dog is part of the family, leaving them behind can make a relaxing lake vacation feel like a little more work.
So for this episode of the All Things Carlton Landing podcast, I sat down with three Carlton Landing vacation rental hosts who welcome dogs into their homes. Each house is completely different, and each host has their own reasons for making their home pet friendly.
I think that's what makes this episode especially fun. These aren't three identical "dog-friendly rentals." They're three very different Carlton Landing homes with different locations, styles, amenities, pet policies, and personalities.

What to Know About Bringing Your Dog to Carlton Landing
Before we get to the homes, there are a few things to know about having a pet in Carlton Landing.
Carlton Landing has a leash ordinance, and guests are expected to clean up after their pets. There are dog waste stations with bags and disposal areas in several parts of town, including Redbud Park, Pastache Park and along the nature trail.
It's also important to remember that Carlton Landing is surrounded by nature. There have been bears and coyotes spotted in the area, so keeping your dog under control and being aware of your surroundings is especially important here.
In other words, even though you're staying in a walkable little town, you're still very much near the wilderness.
And now, let's get to the fun part: three pet-friendly Carlton Landing vacation rentals where you can actually bring your dog along.
La Maison Rose: A Rustic, Dog-Friendly Carlton Landing Home
Our first home is La Maison Rose, owned by Gail Rose and located at 55 Boardwalk.
Gail actually lived in the home full time beginning in 2019 and, at one point, had four dogs living there. So when she turned the home into a vacation rental, welcoming dogs just made sense.
The home is one of the first houses built in Carlton Landing, and it has a very different feel from many of the newer homes in town.
Gail describes it as rustic, and it has beautiful dark wood paneling throughout. The home has a little bit of a country French feel, which is where the name La Maison Rose came from.
It's technically a two-bedroom home, but there is a large open loft upstairs with additional beds. It has four beds total, sleeps eight comfortably and can accommodate up to ten guests. There are two full bathrooms plus a powder bath.
But the part that really stood out to me for dog owners is how intentionally Gail has made the house easy for pets.
The downstairs has wood floors, and there are additional floor coverings upstairs to help protect the carpeting. There is a fenced yard, cleanup bags, leashes, a dog cleanup area, a hose and a bucket for rinsing off sandy or muddy paws.
There's also a walk-in shower in the primary bedroom, which means you can actually get your dog cleaned up after a day at the beach or a muddy walk.
And if you've ever traveled with a dog, you know how much those little details matter.
La Maison Rose Pet Policy
La Maison Rose allows dogs but not cats because Gail is allergic to cats.
The pet fee is $170 for two dogs, with an additional $50 for each dog after that. Up to four dogs are allowed, with a maximum possible pet fee of $270.
There isn't a weight limit, and Gail doesn't have strict rules about whether dogs can get on furniture. Instead, she asks guests to take care of the home and use good judgment.
That's one of the things I loved about talking with these hosts. Because they're self-managing their homes, there is a human element to the pet policies. They're able to have conversations with guests and make decisions on a case-by-case basis.
Independence Day: A Pet-Friendly Home Right on the Park
Our second pet-friendly Carlton Landing rental is Independence Day, owned by Derek and Bevin Douglas.
This three-bedroom, 2.5-bath home sits on Firefly Lane right next to the park and sleeps up to 12 people.
The house has a queen bedroom downstairs with an ensuite bathroom, a king bedroom upstairs and a bunk room that can accommodate a bunch of kids.
And the house is exactly what the name suggests: red, white and blue with plenty of American flags and a very patriotic feel.
But when it comes to traveling with dogs, the fenced yard with turf is probably the biggest draw.
It's designed to make cleanup easy, and the hosts provide leashes, doggy bags, outdoor water bowls and a dog bed.
They also have a Great Pyrenees themselves, so having a dog-friendly home wasn't an afterthought. The idea was that guests should be able to bring their normal life with them on vacation—including their dog.
As Bevin said during the episode, the goal was for people to be able to bring a bag of clothes and just live their life the way they would at home.
I think that's such a good way to think about a family vacation.
Independence Day Pet Policy
Independence Day charges a $100 pet fee and generally allows up to two dogs.
They don't currently allow cats, and they also point out that people with significant dog allergies should be aware that dogs stay in the home.
The hosts do have air purifiers and regularly change things out, but they are very transparent about the fact that a dog-friendly house may not be the best fit for someone with severe allergies.
There aren't a bunch of extra checkout requirements for dog owners. Guests are simply asked to clean up after their pets and let the hosts know if there's an accident inside so the cleaning crew can take care of it properly.

Union House: A Family-Friendly, Dog-Friendly Home in the Heart of Carlton Landing
Our third home is Union House, owned by Danielle Ezell and her family.
And this one has one of the most unique locations in Carlton Landing.
Union House is right next to the Meeting House, which means you're right in the middle of everything. The Meeting House is the town's restaurant, coffee shop, gathering place and one of the more active spots in town.
You can actually hear the music from the porch on Saturday nights.
Danielle is very upfront about that on her website, which I appreciate. If you're looking for a quiet, tucked-away vacation rental, Union House may not be the right fit. But if you love being able to walk out your front door and immediately be in the middle of Carlton Landing, it's a pretty special location.
The home has three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms and sleeps nine comfortably.
It was originally the first general store in Carlton Landing, and some longtime visitors even remember eating hamburgers there before it became a vacation home.
Today, the front room has a desk, games and additional sleeping space, while the rest of the house is designed around family time.
And that same family-first mentality extends to pets.
Union House Pet Policy
Union House has a fenced-in backyard with a fire pit, charcoal grill and plenty of room for dogs to run.
There is no wall-to-wall carpet, the throw rugs are washable, and the main couch is leather, making the house especially practical for pets.
There's also a hose outside for muddy paws and beach towels that can be used to dry off dogs.
Danielle keeps dog treats on the counter and usually has some extra dog food around in case a guest forgets theirs.
And here's something that makes Union House stand out:
There is no additional pet fee.
Pet stays are simply included in the rental price.
They ask guests to bring no more than two pets and preferably dogs around 20 pounds or less, although Danielle said she's never turned someone down when they've reached out and asked about bringing a larger dog.
Cats aren't allowed because of Danielle's allergies.
And interestingly, Danielle estimates that at least half of their guests bring dogs.
Which Carlton Landing Pet-Friendly Rental Is Right for You?
The great thing about these three homes is that they're all so different.
La Maison Rose is a great option if you're looking for a rustic, historic-feeling home with a fenced yard and lots of thoughtful dog-friendly amenities.
Independence Day is a good fit for larger families, especially those who want to be right on the park and need space for up to 12 people.
Union House is ideal if you want to be in the center of Carlton Landing, close to the Meeting House, and you're looking for a family-oriented home where pets are welcomed without an additional pet fee.
