Houfy Custom Link Guidelines

What these Guidelines cover

A custom URL is a short web address on Houfy that points at your listing, or at all of your listings together — for example houfy.com/h/private-apartment-in-breckenridge. These Guidelines set the rules for choosing and keeping one. They are part of our Terms of Service. Rules about links from your listing to other websites are in our Link & Video Guidelines.

Where to create one

• For one listing: Menu > Manage Listings > Edit on the listing > Overview > Custom Link. A listing can have one custom URL at a time. The address takes the form houfy.com/h/your-name.

• For all of your listings together: Menu > Manage Listings, then Custom Link. You can set one address for a list of your listings (houfy.com/ls/your-name) and one for the same list shown on a map (houfy.com/l/your-name).

If you change a custom URL, do not rely on the old address continuing to work — update it wherever you have shared it.

What a custom URL may contain

• Letters, numbers and hyphens only, and no more than 100 characters. Spaces, underscores, full stops and symbols are removed automatically when you save (beach_house_miami becomes beachhousemiami), so type hyphens where you want the word breaks.

• At least five characters, and at least one letter. Everything is converted to lower case, and the address must be unique - if someone already has it you will see "This custom url is already taken".

• Use lower-case letters, so the address reads the same wherever it is typed.

What a custom URL may not contain

• "Houfy" or any variation of it, or anything else our Brand Usage Terms do not allow.

• Words that describe a Houfy status or product — "verified", "official", "houfyProtect", "approved", "certified", "guaranteed", "insured" and similar.

• A name, brand or trademark that is not yours, or wording that implies a connection with a person, business or organisation you do not have.

• Only a single generic word: a property type ("cottage", "loft"), a place name ("miami"), or numbers alone. Combinations are fine — colorado-mountains-vacation-homes is acceptable.

• Anything that breaks our Community Standards.

Your URL is part of your listing

Everything the Community Standards and Fair Housing Guidelines say about listing text applies to your custom URL. It must describe your listing truthfully and must not state or suggest a preference about who may stay.

You use the URL; you do not own it

A custom URL stays with the listing or account it was created for. You may not sell, rent or transfer it, on its own or with a listing.

Your URL works while the listing or account it points at is active. It may be released if the listing or account is deactivated, deleted or removed from Houfy for any reason, and a released URL may be given to another host. If you plan to print the address or use it in your own marketing, keep the listing published.

When we may change or withdraw a URL

We may change, redirect or withdraw a custom URL if it breaks these Guidelines or our Terms, if someone with rights in a name or mark it contains asks us to, or if we need the address for a Houfy page or a technical reason. Where we do, we tell you why and you may appeal within 30 days by replying to that notice, as our Terms of Service describe.

Not acceptable: houfy-breckenridge (our name) · verified-lakehouse (a Houfy status) · westvale-mountain-lodge (someone else’s brand) · cottage (a single generic word) · adults-only-condo (fair housing)
