Finca La Lavanda is a wonderful base for exploring Mallorca. Set just a two-minute drive from Alaró, the finca feels peaceful and rural while putting you within easy reach of the mountains, villages, beaches and attractions that make Mallorca such a special island.
Here are some of our favourite things to do during a stay.
1. Hike in the Serra de Tramuntana
The Serra de Tramuntana is one of Mallorca's greatest natural treasures and a UNESCO World Heritage landscape. There are walking routes ranging from gentle countryside walks to more demanding mountain hikes, with spectacular scenery along the way.
The famous GR-221 Pedra en Sec route crosses the Tramuntana and offers some of the island's most memorable hiking. From Alaró, you are particularly well placed to explore the mountains around Alaró, Orient, Bunyola and beyond.
The town hall of Alaró has an excellent website with many local walks highlighted.
2. Walk up to Castell d'Alaró
One of the area's best-known walks is the route to Castell d'Alaró, the dramatic historic castle perched high in the mountains above the village.
The walk combines beautiful mountain scenery with one of Mallorca's most atmospheric historic sites, and the views from the top are spectacular.
It is one of the experiences we particularly recommend to guests who enjoy walking and want to see a different side of Mallorca.
3. Discover Mallorca by bike
Mallorca is internationally popular with cyclists, and cycling is a particular seasonal highlight around Alaró and the Tramuntana.
The combination of mountain roads, quiet countryside, traditional villages and spectacular scenery makes this an excellent base for road cycling. More experienced cyclists can head into the Tramuntana, while there are also gentler routes through the central Mallorca countryside.
There are bike hire companies and cycling services on the island, and we can help point guests towards options that suit their plans. There are two excellent bike hire companies in Alaró, one of which can even deliver bikes to the villa.
4. Explore Alaró
Don't overlook the village itself.
Alaró has a relaxed, authentic Mallorcan atmosphere, with its central square, cafés, restaurants, bars, small shops and Saturday market.
It is a lovely place to enjoy a coffee, have lunch or dinner, browse the Saturday
market and simply watch village life unfold.
And because Finca La Lavanda is only a two-minute drive from Alaró, it is easy to combine a day of exploring with an afternoon back at the pool.
5. Explore the villages of the Tramuntana
One of the pleasures of Mallorca is simply driving through the mountains and stopping in the beautiful villages along the way.
Sóller, Fornalutx, Deià, Valldemossa and Banyalbufar are among the best-known, each with its own character, scenery and history.
Take your time rather than trying to see everything in one day. A scenic drive, a long lunch and a wander through a village can be just as rewarding as ticking off a list of attractions.
6. Spend a day on one of Mallorca's beaches
Although Finca La Lavanda is inland, some of Mallorca's best beaches are within easy reach by car.
This gives you the best of both worlds: a peaceful countryside base away from the busiest coastal resorts, with the Mediterranean still close enough for a day at the beach.
We can recommend beaches depending on whether you are looking for somewhere lively, family-friendly, scenic or quieter.
7. Visit Palma
Palma is close enough to make an easy day or half-day trip from the finca.
Explore the historic old town, see the cathedral and Royal Palace, wander through the narrow streets and stop for lunch or tapas before returning to the peace of the countryside.
It is particularly easy to combine Palma with another stop along the way, depending on how much of the island you want to see.
8. Discover Mallorca's food and wine
Mallorca is about much more than beaches.
Around Alaró and the surrounding villages you'll find excellent restaurants, traditional Mallorcan food, local produce and vineyards.
The central part of the island is particularly enjoyable for food and wine lovers because you can combine a relaxed lunch with a visit to a village, winery or local market.

9. Visit the Saturday market and local markets
Markets are a great way to experience everyday Mallorca.
The Saturday market in Alaró is an easy place to start, while other towns and villages around the island have their own weekly markets selling local produce, food, crafts and other goods.
Market days can be a lovely addition to a morning spent exploring the surrounding countryside.
10. Slow down and enjoy the finca
And finally, don't feel that you have to spend every day exploring.
One of the great advantages of staying at Finca La Lavanda is being able to combine Mallorca adventures with genuine downtime.
After a morning hiking in the Tramuntana or cycling through the countryside, come back for a swim in the saltwater pool, relax beneath the pergola, enjoy lunch outdoors or simply sit and take in the mountain views.
That balance — mountains, villages, beaches and cycling one day; pool, gardens and complete peace the next — is one of the things we love most about staying here.
A little note about exploring Mallorca
A rental car is recommended for making the most of the island. It gives you the freedom to explore the mountains, villages and beaches at your own pace while still having Finca La Lavanda as your peaceful base near Alaró.
