Green season Gambia 2019

The rain has come late in Gambia but it’s finally here. But at Camara Gardens Kololi and Brufut It’s business as usual! The months May to October are known as the “Green season” when the flowers and trees come to life.

In Brufut we have guests here on Business and on Holiday, but the rain hasn’t stopped them enjoying their stay.

WE need the rain in Gambia for the farmers to grow crops such as rice, peanuts and corn to feed the families as well as for the gardens and fruits. In the garden we have Papaya, Bananas and Avocado which will be ready in the coming weeks..

If you visit upcountry then you will see fabulous green fields growing the crops. Rice is planted and taken care of by the ladies whilst the men take care of the groundnuts. The whole village work together as a “kafo” alias cooperative to produce the goods, kids included!

Our Camara family are farmers in the rural village of Joren on the south Trans Gambia highway near Kalagi. Nearby is a Bolong (In Gambia a bolong or bolon means a creek, "movable water" or "tributary" in the Mandinka language) where the ladies use the saline water from the River Gambia to make rock salt. Whilst the kids love playing in the water to cool down! The villagers also work together to collect firewood from the forest to sell on for cooking!

Come see for your self!
