BIKE TRAILS
Cape Cod Canal Bikeway, 14 mile paved path
You can access this from the cottage - bike south on Phillips Road until you reach the dead end. Enter the dirt path through the woods until you reach a parking lot. Scusset Beach Reservation is to your left and towards the right you will see an open field and playground. Go straight until you see a boardwalk and proceed up the boardwalk to the canal. Walk the jetty at Scusset Beach, then along the canal you will see fisherman, stop by the Herring Run and make pit stop across the street at the Seafood Shanty for an ice cream sandwich. If you make it all the way to the end at railroad bridge, there’s some great restaurants like Mahoney’s or Rod and Rail across the street.
Cape Cod Rail Trail, 25 mile paved path
Bike the old Cape Cod Railroad (used to transport passengers and freight to Cape Cod in the early 1800s until around 1960) from South Yarmouth to Wellfleet. There is parking available at the start or you can take the weekend CapeFlyer train!
Province Lands Trail, 7¼ miles
If you end up in Provincetown I highly recommend this trail through the scenic dunes leading to Herring Cove and Race Point Beaches. You can take a ferry from Plymouth or Hyannis with your bike to avoid traffic and parking.
