When we bought this place back in 2018, it was just a quiet little getaway—a small dome, a workshop dome, and a garage tucked away in the Northwoods. The dream? A simple "cabin up north" where we could escape the busy and breathe a little deeper.
We never planned to live here full time. And we certainly didn’t plan to open it up for others to enjoy. But as we've learned, God often writes a different story than the one we had in mind—and sometimes, He does it with a wink and a sense of humor.
If someone had told us we'd be living here full time by 2021 and hosting guests by 2023, we probably would have laughed and shaken our heads. Yet here we are—living, building, welcoming. It turns out, hospitality was a gift God wanted us to use in a bigger way than we expected. And Bob? He just can’t help himself—he’s always dreaming, designing, and creating new ways to make the space more beautiful and restful for our guests.
This land, once our personal retreat, has grown into something more—Friedenswald, “Peace Forest,” a place we hope feels like a deep exhale the moment you arrive.
