I always find a reason to stop at this place when I’m headed over the Middlebury gap. What a trip back in time. There’s still a wood stove, creaky old floor boards, old refrigerators and even the original cash register with a crank handle on the side! I love the old signs outside as well.

My great grandmother Jenny Rose was a bootlegger in Ripton, VT in the prohibition era, making her own whiskey at home. The story says that she wore a rose on her coat lapel when she had product to alert her clientele. My great uncle went to jail for her for 3 years when they were caught. I hail from innovative stock.

I am generally law-abiding (vehicle inspections aside) and have never tried my hand at making any hard stuff. I do, however, have plans to experiment further with #enfleurage and perfume-making in the flower season ahead.
