Strathcona is a vibrant, historic neighborhood in East Vancouver, known for its charming heritage homes, parks, and a strong sense of community. While it's located about six blocks east of Main and Hastings, many people mistakenly think they have to walk through this part of town to reach downtown. Main and Hastings is known for being a more derelict part of the city, but it's easily avoidable with several alternative routes.

Instead of taking Hastings, you can walk one block up to Pender Street and head west, or enjoy a scenic bike or car ride by heading two blocks down, taking a **left** on Clark Drive, and then a **left** on Powell Street. This quiet route will take you right into downtown Vancouver without passing through Main and Hastings.

For a faster trip, whether by bike or car, head down Hastings, take a **left** on Clark, and a **left** on Powell. Continue on Powell to Main Street, take a **right**, and you'll loop around a bridge onto W. Waterfront Road. From there, you'll pass through a breezeway underneath Canada Place, and near the end, you’ll find a hidden entrance onto the scenic seawall right where the Helijets take off from Coal Harbour. It’s a quick, beautiful ride that avoids the rougher parts of town and brings you straight into the heart of Vancouver’s waterfront.
