About this place

2+ private acres of cedar forest on the Key Peninsula, 30 min from Gig Harbor and 1 mile from Penrose Point State Park beaches.

🛌 Two queen bedrooms, one on the main floor with step-free entry
🌙 Garden lights guide you along the path after dark
☕ Morning coffee on the covered patio while the rain chain runs
🔥 Grill on the sundeck, then finish the night at the fire pit
🐕 Dogs welcome, beach trails a 15-min walk or 2-min drive
💻 Wi-Fi and a private workspace
🧺 Washer, dryer and iron

The space
Follow the garden lights up the path and feel the day fall away. Big windows frame towering cedars and mossy maples, the rain chain sings on wet mornings, and the chipmunks act like they own the place. This is a certified wildlife habitat on 2+ private acres, a short walk from Penrose Point's beaches.

WHAT YOU'LL LOVE

• 🌿 Certified wildlife habitat: deer, owls, otters and eagles have all been spotted
• 🌧 Covered patio with rain chain and deep lounge seating
• ☀️ Sunny deck with dining for four, umbrella and gas grill
• 🌲 Fire pit, hammocks and a two-person swing around the property
• 🏖 Penrose Point beaches and trails, a 15-minute walk or 2-minute drive
• 🍳 A kitchen guests call "the most complete we've ever stayed in"
• 🐾 Up to two dogs welcome
• ♿ Wheelchair ramp, step-free main floor, step-free shower with seat
• 🧼 Washer and dryer, Wi-Fi and a private workspace

THE CABIN

Vaulted pine ceilings and oversized windows fill the cabin with light, and the big picture window shows the forest changing with every season. Warm wood, a plush blue sofa and soft evening lighting make it easy to stay in.

• Streaming TV with Chromecast and Fire TV (use your own logins)
• Bluetooth speaker, books and board games
• Portable A/C in summer; electric wall heater with central heat as backup

SLEEPING (SLEEPS 4)

Primary bedroom, main floor: wake up to forest views on every side.
• Queen bed with natural latex mattress and organic cotton sheets
• Smart 32" TV, nightstands with USB charging, dimmable lights and ceiling fan
• Closet, drawers, extra pillows and blankets

Loft bedroom, upstairs: my favorite place. A treehouse hideaway under a wood-clad ceiling, with mushroom wallpaper and treetop views from three windows.
• Memory-foam queen bed with a headboard made for lounging; the ceiling is about 56 inches, so it's for sleeping and sitting, not standing
• The stairs are steeper than normal, with rails on both sides
• Glass-top table for work or meals, overlooking the living room

KITCHEN & COFFEE

For guests who consider morning coffee an important event.
• Gas stove, microwave and French-door fridge with ice maker
• Drip coffee maker, Keurig, French press and electric kettle
• Ground coffee, a handful of K-cups and several teas
• Pantry basics: oil, seasonings, vinegar and sugar
• Sharp knives, quality cookware and plenty of counter space

BATHROOM

• Jack-and-Jill layout connecting the primary bedroom and kitchen
• Walk-in, step-free shower with seat, handheld sprayer and grab bars
• Toilet grab bar
• 100% Egyptian cotton towels and Ginger Lily Farms natural toiletries
• Tankless water heater for plenty of hot water and pressure

OUTDOOR LIVING (A GUEST FAVORITE)

This is where most guests spend their time. Coffee on the covered patio while rain runs down the chain, dinner on the sundeck, then the fire pit as the garden lights glow through the trees.
• Benches, a picnic table, chairs and hammocks around the property
• Life-size games and open grass with room to roam
• The property is not fenced and wildlife is all around, so keep pets close

DOG FRIENDLY

Well-behaved dogs are welcome, up to two. The forest, decks and nearby trails make this an easy stay for guests traveling with pets. Please review the house rules and note our pet fee, and add your dog(s) to your reservation.

LOCATION

Groceries and restaurants are less than 12 minutes away, yet it feels a world apart.
• Penrose Point State Park: beaches, shoreline trails and sunsets
• Gig Harbor, Belfair and Tacoma for dining and shopping
• Day trips: Hood Canal, Lake Cushman, Mt. Rainier, Olympic National Park, or the Seattle ferry from Bremerton
• Kayak, paddle, hike, or stay put and do nothing at all

YOUR HOST

Roger and I own Magic Lantern and clean it ourselves. We're nearby if you need anything, and we'll otherwise leave you to enjoy the woods.

PERFECT FOR

• Couples unplugging from daily life
• Solo travelers seeking calm or creative focus
• Pet owners wanting a peaceful nature stay
• Guests who need step-free access and still want the woods

Guest access
Look for the mailbox with a deer crossing sign on it. Watch for our driveway gate. You can either leave it open or close it. After entering the property, you'll drive up the small hill to park next to the cabin. The entire house (except for owner’s supply closet in bedroom and kitchen & lower level shed) is yours to enjoy- plus the front & backyards with plenty of parking and places to spread out.

Other things to note
Three exterior cameras cover the driveway only. None point at the cabin, they're used when the cabin is empty, and they aren't monitored during your stay. There are no cameras inside. A noise-level monitor (decibel readings only, no audio or video recording) helps us prevent parties and alerts us to extreme temperatures, broken windows or moisture.
