About this place
Downtown Studio with Historic Elegance. Unit D
Historic charm meets modern comfort in the heart of downtown. This bright, spacious studio features a kitchen, separate dining room, and plenty of storage. Enjoy access to a shared rooftop deck overlooking top restaurants. Hosted by Voyageur Stays—a locally owned, husband-and-wife-run company passionate about handcrafted, thoughtfully curated spaces.
Third floor walk-up. Construction nearby.
This is one of 15 thoughtfully restored units in downtown Madison.
The building is a 1929 Georgian Revival gem, recently renovated with care—featuring original woodwork, custom-designed rugs, handcrafted headboards, and often local art. On the first floor is an oyster bar; just steps beyond are James Beard–winning restaurants, walkable lakefront paths, and the Capitol Square.
We’re Julia and Kristopher—your hosts, renovators, and the husband-and-wife team behind Voyageur Stays. We live just a few minute walk away with our 8-year-old son and are always nearby if you need anything. What started as a side project in our own home has grown into a boutique design-focused hospitality company rooted in community, comfort, and craftsmanship. We love welcoming guests into spaces that feel personal, warm, and well-loved.
Please note before booking:
Staying in the heart of the city means:
-Nearby construction (both road and building projects)
-City sounds like garbage trucks
-Paid parking is available a short walk away at the Wilson Street Ramp
Construction hours (per City of Madison ordinance):
-Monday–Saturday: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
-Sunday: 10:00 AM–7:00 PM
(Louder tools like hammers, saws, and compressors are prohibited outside these hours, though lighter activity may begin earlier.)
Staying in a historic building means:
-Third-floor walk-up (no elevator)
-Radiator heat (recently updated) and window AC units
Many residents in the building stay a month or longer, so we especially appreciate guests who are respectful of others working and resting nearby. We’re always happy to offer tips, assistance, or anything that helps you feel at home during your stay.
You’ll receive a building access code and a separate unit code prior to check-in.
We have monthly resident gatherings we'll invite you to! We are a mere message, text, or call away to help with anything else. We'll give you as much privacy or support you'd like.
We are a few minute walk away from both the Monona Terrace and its associated lakeside bike/walking path and the Capitol. Everything is walkable or bikeable from here. Additionally, pay additional for nearby parking.
We welcome friendly dogs with prior approval—just let us know before booking so we can plan accordingly. Sorry, no cats, to help protect our furnishings and support allergy-sensitive guests.
This building is home to both short- and long-term residents, so we ask all guests to help us maintain a peaceful environment. Quiet hours are from 10 PM to 8 AM, and we appreciate your help in keeping shared spaces and hallways respectful and serene.
