Winter Activities in Okemo Valley

There are so many things to do in the winter in Okemo Valley! (This is a list independent of potential COVID-19 closings or changes in service.)

Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding

The best thing about Lake Rescue Chalet in the winter is how easy it is to get to world-class skiing. You’ll find a number of excellent ski mountains within an hour’s drive, ranging from the sheer massiveness of Killington to the family-friendliness of Bromley to the class of Stratton. • Okemo Mountain Resort
  Okemo is a world-class ski resort owned by Vail that is just four miles away. It boasts two base areas, 121 trails and a vertical drop of 2,100 feet, with 98% snowmaking to produce some of the best conditions in the East.
• Killington Resort
  Killington Resort stretches across seven mountains with 200 trails and 33 lifts.
• Pico Mountain
  Pico Mountain is one of Vermont`s largest mountains, with a vertical drop of 1,967 feet spread over 50 trails and 214 skiable acres.
• Bromley Mountain
  Bromley Mountain was rated the #1 Resort in North America for Family Programs by Ski Magazine in 2004.
• Stratton Mountain
  Set on the highest peak in southern Vermont, Stratton Mountain offers an exhilarating skiing experience for beginner to expert with 92 trails and a 2,003-foot vertical drop.

Ice Skating and Sledding

• Okemo Ice House Skating Facility
  Okemo has a hockey rink and recreational ice skating pavilion at Jackson Gore with rentals and a warming area with a gas-fueled fireplace. (Closed due to COVID)
• Hawk Mountain Resort
  Hawk Mountain Resort, about three miles north of the chalet, has a little skating pond and a sledding hill.

Cross-Country Skiing

There are several XC facilities within 40 minutes of the chalet. Find more info at xcountryski-vermont.com/.

• Okemo Valley Nordic Center
  The Okemo Nordic Center, located on the Okemo Golf Course, offers a variety of trails, both on the greens and in the woods, as well as a store, a rental shop and a restaurant.
• Hawk Mountain Resort
  Hawk has several trails for all levels, and offers equipment rentals.
• Camp Plymouth State Park at Echo Lake
  If you have your own gear, you can go over there and ski on the wooded trails.
  (DIRECTIONS: North on 100, right onto Kingdom Rd. at Echo Lake Inn, left onto Scout Camp Rd. Park is at the bottom of the hill. Lake is to the left and wooded trails to the right after the cluster of cabins.)
• Mountain Meadows Cross Country Ski & Snow Shoe Area
  Mountain Meadows, located near Killington, offers a great, affordable family experience.

Snow Shoeing

Okemo Valley Nordic Center
You’ll find 10km of dedicated snowshoe trails at the Okemo Valley Nordic Center, as well as rentals and more.

Snowmobiling

Our home is near the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers (VAST) Network. See the complete statewide map. The trail network goes right by our house and out across Lake Rescue. To rent a snowmobile, head north ten miles on 100; Killington Snowmobile Rentals is on your left.
