About this place

Perched atop the highest point on the Muskegon Channel, this bluff-top cozy home offers unmatched solitude and is a boat watchers dream.

Welcome to The Channel House! A unique and special find perched atop the highest point on the Muskegon Channel. Enjoy a very private space with 180 degree views from Muskegon Lake in the east to Lake Michigan in the west. The house sits alone, high on a bluff so the amazing views belong to you and you alone. A boat watcher's paradise, enjoy an endless parade of watercraft. You’ll be amazed and there is no other view on the channel quite like it.

We welcome respectful family groups.

This is not a party house.

The Home:
An updated cozy 3 bed 3 bath home. Smart TV's are found in the main living room as well as both queen bedrooms. The Kid’s room has 2 bunkbeds, twin over twin and twin over full with a single pull out trundle.

The kitchen is well equipped for meal prep including standard spices and other basics needed for cooking.

There is plenty of outdoor space for play, relaxing and dining with a Weber gas grill, two outdoor dining sets, 3 decks, egg chairs, hammock trees and a rustic firepit.

There is much to do in the area to make those great vacations memories. It’s only a short walk to Michigan’s best beach-Pere Marquette on Lake Michigan. The beach is very clean and regularly groomed and sifted. There is a large play structure for the little ones as well as restrooms and concession area. Play in the water, build a sandcastle, fly a kite, take a kite-boarding lesson, rent a boat, seadoo or paddleboard and so much more.

Harbour Towne Beach is a short walk in the other direction and sits on the shore of Muskegon Lake. If the “Big Lake” is too rough or cold, consider Harbour Towne Beach. Both beaches are very walk-able, however if you have little ones and a bunch of gear, consider driving. Paid parking is required at both city beaches.

Walk the entire length of the paved channel and take a tour of the lighthouse at the west end. It’s quite a climb up and it’s not for the faint of heart but well worth the view. Bring your fishing pole and do some channel fishing, license is required.

For history buffs, the USS Silversides Submarine Museum is a stone’s throw away and a big feature in your backyard view. Consider visiting for a great day of WWII submarine history.

We have two fantastic seasonal restaurant within walking distance from The Channel House. The Deck sits right on the beach at Pere Marquette to the north of the Pier. The menu consists of smoked meats and sauces with delicious sides and a variety of other items. The Deck features live music every night and afternoons on Sundays and has quickly become a destination spot in and of itself. For those familiar with our area, Dockers Restaurant is no more. The building has been purchased and revamped by the same group that owns The Deck and has been reopened as Bodocks. It also has live music Thursday-Sunday, but lower key compared to the bigger venue of The Deck. A great new menu and marina atmosphere make this a must visit.

For boaters, a launch ramp is available at Harbour Towne Marina for a daily fee. There are several other nearby boat launch sites along the Muskegon Lake shoreline. If you have a large watercraft, consider a transient slip at Harbour Towne Marina.

If you’d like to venture farther out, consider visiting our revitalized Downtown Muskegon area with unique restaurants, craft breweries and makers of distilled spirits, cute shops as well as a terrific Farmer’s Market. Downtown Muskegon is now home to Lake Michigan's newest marina at Adelaide Pointe which hosts a great new restaurant The Muskegon Brewing Company-boasting amazing views of Muskegon Lake from their large balcony dining area. Heritage Landing hosts many summertime activities and festivals. Michigan’s Adventure Amusement and Water Park is a 30 minute drive for a full day of family fun and West Michigan has many quaint towns to visit along the coast.

Come stay at The Channel House and experience all that West Michigan has to offer: Brilliant Beaches and Fun Festivals, Miles and Miles of nature and bike trails, parks and dunes, restaurants and breweries. Your host is always happy to recommend any number of activities for you to enjoy.

Owner

English
The owners are both West Michigan natives. Chuck grew up in Whitehall and Kathy was born and raised just a few miles away from The Channel House in Lakeside. We have lived in different areas of the country but have found that Muskegon and West Michigan is simply "home" and has so much to offer year round. We purchased The Channel House when it was in a state of pure potential. The privacy, views and location are absolutely amazing and instantly won us over. We have spent a large amount of time living in and updating this home and can say without reservation that we truly love being at The Channel House. One of our very favorite things about this property is the boat watching. Using a marine traffic tracker app is a great tool to see when the big freighters are heading through the channel. We love watching the variety of boats from the vantage that the home sits, above it all. You are at eye level to some of the bigger boats and can even get them to blow their horns if you can catch their attention. The channel is wonderfully busy during the summer and yet it is very peaceful and relaxing to watch all that activity from the comfort of The Channel House.
