There are some cultural differences with the people of Playa del Carmen. Playa is a very cosmopolitan city with people for all parts of the world. It is very casual. You can eat in most any restaurant wearing shorts, tee shirt, and sandals Many of the "native" people are of Mayan descent. They are lovely, hard-working people with strong family values. Most people work 6 days a week. On Sundays, you will see many of the families on the beaches.
