I recommend you use the ATMs in the lobby of the HSBC branch office on Juarez just west of 10th Avenue. I've used them regularly and had nothing but good luck. But be warned, Friday afternoon and Saturday mornings are when the locals use the ATMS. If you don't want to wait in line, plan accordingly.

Exchanging money is a very popular topic because everyone wants to know how to get the best deal on exchange for their dollar or whatever currency you are exchanging when you come to Playa Del Carmen. Bottom line is, don't sweat it. Second, don't exchange before you get here.
