A car is the most convenient way to get around (good local roads, parking available in or near the area). Regular KTEL intercity buses connect Agios Nikolaos with Heraklion, Sitia, and other cities in Crete—expect frequent service to Heraklion and Elounda, with reduced frequency during the off-season. Taxis are available in town. For long-distance travel to and from Crete, ferries or planes are used.
