About this place

Tucked away on a quiet street in Big Bear City, Jackalope Hideout is a lovingly remodeled 1960s Sierra cabin blending vintage charm with modern comfort.
With warm wood accents and a slightly rustic, old school cabin feel, it’s a great fit for couples who want an authentic cabin stay.

Cozy up by the wood burning fireplace, cook in a kitchen set up for real meals, and enjoy the fully fenced backyard with a propane BBQ and fire pit. Well behaved, house trained dogs are welcome.

The space
Jackalope Hideout sits on a spacious 5,000 square foot lot in a quiet Big Bear City neighborhood, about 6 miles from Snow Summit and Bear Mountain. Drive time varies depending on weather and traffic.

The living room includes a smart TV, DVD player with a large movie selection, and a Bluetooth soundbar. Prefer unplugging? There’s a curated mix of books and games. A wood burning fireplace adds cozy ambiance. Firewood is not provided but is available at local markets. A dedicated desk with external monitor makes remote work easy. The sofa converts to a queen bed for additional guests.

Step through the sliding glass door into the fully fenced backyard with a propane BBQ, dining table for four, and a hammock between tall pines. In the evening, light the propane fire pit and relax in Adirondack chairs under the stars.

The kitchen is stocked for real cooking, including pots, pans, knives, baking sheets, spices, oil, coffee, and more. Appliances include an air fryer, drip coffee maker, Keurig, French press, rice maker, mini food processor, and a compact dishwasher for easy cleanup. We simply ask that used dishes and appliances are cleaned before checkout.

The dining nook seats up to four and also makes a great game table.

The bedroom features a comfy Lull mattress with a foam topper, plus plenty of blankets and pillows. The bathroom is accessed through the bedroom. Towels, a hair dryer, and a small supply of toiletries are provided.

The front yard fits up to three vehicles and can accommodate a small trailer or boat under 25 feet.

🐾 Dog Policy (no cats allowed)

Please disclose dogs before booking. We welcome well behaved, house trained dogs. We do have a dog, so guests with pet allergies should consider this. For multiple dogs, please reach out in advance.

Dog bowls, a heated dog bed, treats, and a few toys are provided. We ask that pets stay off furniture and are not left unattended inside or outside, for their safety and the safety of local wildlife.

You will have access to the entire cabin and yard.

Other things to note
Please note that while the cabin is in a quiet neighborhood, it is located within the flight path of aircraft coming to and from the nearby Big Bear Airport. You may occasionally hear a low-flying plane or helicopter during your stay.

From November through April, all visitors are required to carry tire chains in their vehicles. For the most accurate and current weather information, we recommend checking bensweather dot com.

While we happily welcome fur babies, our cabin isn’t really set up for human babies. There are sharp edges on the furniture and other elements that may not be child-friendly.

We stay at the cabin ourselves when it’s not being rented, so we ask that all guests treat it with the same love and respect they would their own home.

Pet and cleaning fees are already included in your booking total. You will not see them listed as separate line items.

When the mountains call, my pup and I don’t hesitate to answer. We’re off running trails, climbing rocks, and finding those quiet little moments between the pines that make everything feel right again. Hosting our little cabin is our way of sharing that mix of adventure, stillness, and simple mountain joy with others. We love helping guests slow down, breathe deeper, and feel at home in nature.
