My place is in a seasonal area. My guests book between November and February for July and August. Instead of messaging them at checkout about booking direct next year, I reach out in October with this message:

“It was a pleasure hosting you this summer. I’ve opened the calendar for next year and want to offer booking direct if you would like to stay with us again next year. This would save you the 14% service fee that Airbnb and VRBO collects. My website with up to date calendar is Houfy.com/h/lakehouse”.

People don’t really remember your checkout message months later when they go to rebook you. Try waiting 7-14 days before emailing them so it doesn’t blur with all the other messages they got that day and the following days about airline tickets, going back to work, etc.
