We aim to help you with that when you vacation at Clover’s Cottage. The beauty of rural east-central Pennsylvania is all around. Farmland, pastures, small churches and one-horse towns (because of the Amish community that is here, it is quite literally a little community with horses!). You will feel it as you drive through the mountain foothills, past the wineries, or explore the back roads to nowhere - a drive headed right toward your first vacation goal: RELAX.
On property, we offer some simple and wonderful little treats that will be enjoyed by children and adults. The original cast iron well hand-pump sits just off the front porch. It offers hours of entertainment for the youngins’, filling toy buckets found in the shed with water and growing creativity while parents relax on the porch swing. By the creek is a tall hanging tree swing that beckons any rider. There is a small dock on the pond that acts as a great fishing spot or a launch for our row boat or canoe. Many children and adults alike have caught their first fish here, many dogs have enjoyed swimming until near exhaustion, and many parents are found rowing their kiddos across the water to explore the outdoors.
Want more? We have it. Further up on the creek is a pedestrian covered bridge. Children will love exploring the yard and imagining the friendly little trolls that live under the bridge. Next to the bridge is a little wooden playhouse that makes perfect playtime for any human under 4’ 5”. Wind down your day with a campfire in the yard, roasting marshmallows, telling stories and chasing fireflies. All of these simple and unique outdoor amenities are sure to hasten your complete arrival at your second vacation goal: REFRESH.
So all that is left to accomplish the perfect vacation is to RECONNECT with family and friends. In order to truly embrace the idea and achieve such a lofty goal from a vacation, it is often first necessary to disconnect a bit as well. Email, social media, news streaming and other electronic distractions have consumed our lives. It is very difficult to discipline ourselves (and our kids) to limit how much influence it has over us.
Let us help you with that. Because of our rural location, we don’t have any other option. With no cable service, there will be little reason to sit in the house in front of the TV and get stuck there for hours. While we do provide a small DVD collection, we think you and your children will quickly adjust to the quiet peacefulness in the house. Still want a little noise? With few radio stations reaching into our little hollow in the country, we provide a CD music collection that has something to please (almost) any taste (but feel free to bring your own as well). Cell phone service is available, but can be limited in some areas of the property because of the rural, mountainous terrain. We also don’t have blazing fast, unlimited internet here (our wi-fi data is provided via satellite and is limited in the number of GBs available), so wi-fi is useful if your phone doesn't have enough bars to make a phone call, check your email or make a post on social media. Between the two, you will have the security and safety of connecting to the outside world when needed. (Note that the most reliable service is currently Verizon. Expect that the number of “bars” of service on phones to vary based on your location in the house or in the yard). A visit to Clover’s Cottage is a little bit like stepping back in time. Take it all in stride - because sometimes the BEST way to RECONNECT is to UNPLUG from your daily life for little while. Here at Clover's Cottage, that is exactly what we do.
