Gluten Free on Hilton Head Island!
Whether you eat Gluten-Free by choice or for medical reasons, the G-Free Spot is a "must check out" destination on the island. Originally a bakery that specialized in DELICIOUS gluten-free cakes, cookies, and other desserts, the G-Free Spot now serves Breakfast and Lunch items (salad and sandwiches) and specialty coffee drinks, as well! Each menu item can be served Gluten-Free or "regular".
There are many places to eat with a gluten sensitivity on Hilton Head Island, but here are a few of my favorites. If you have a severe gluten allergic or celiac disease, be sure to speak with the restaurant staff about cross-contamination.

JAVA BURRITO Co.
A casual restaurant with a burrito bar, a breakfast bar and a coffee bar. All ingredients are fresh and each order is custom-made to your specifications! *Most all ingredients are gluten free but the flour burritos and bagels are NOT gluten free. (Vegan friendly options also available.)
Burrito Bar: First you choose whether you want a bowl, burrito, taco, salad, or quesadilla. Then, you choose your protein, including chicken, steak, pork, fish, veggie, or beyond meat (vegan). Lastly, you choose your toppings from cilantro lime rice, beans, grilled veggies, fresh salsas, queso, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, guacamole, and bacon.
Breakfast Bar: Similar to the burrito bar, you first choose whether you want a bagel, bowl, burrito, taco, quesadilla, or nachos. Then you choose your protein(s), including egg, chicken, steak, pork, fish, or beyond meat (vegan). Then you choose toppings from the same choices above.

CHOW DADDY'S
A very casual family friendly American restaurant offering fresh, local, and organic foods, including salads, tacos, burgers, and seafood. Although there is not a separate gluten free menu, most menu items can be made gluten-free and they have gluten-free bread! There is both indoor and outdoor seating.

Two very popular waterfront restaurants in Hilton Head, Skull Creek Dockside & Skull Creek Boathouse have extensive menus that includes a wide variety of seafood, steak, sushi and pastas. They have a sizeable Gluten-Free menu, including fried seafood and gluten-free pastas. Both locations have indoor and outdoor seating, with stunning views regardless of where you sit.

THE CRAZY CRAB
At two beautiful waterfront locations, The Crazy Crab is a family friendly Lowcountry restaurant with indoor seating, outdoor seating, and Take out service. All entrees are prepared to order. There are Gluten Free options, Vegetarian options, a Kids menu, a full bar and extensive wine list. In addition to the delicious food, there is live music in the summer and onsite playgrounds in both locations.

POSEIDON
Located in Shelter Cove Towne Center, Poseidon has a varied menu of seafood, steaks, salads and lots more! There is an extensive Gluten Free menu and, since they have a dedicated gluten-free fryer, you can even enjoy gluten-free fried green tomatoes, fried local seafood and French fries!
The location is beautiful and there is a full bar with great service. Guests have the option to dine indoors or outdoors. You can walk in or make a reservation.

GUISEPPI'S PIZZA AND PASTA
Located in the Plaza at Shelter Cove, Guiseppi's has a full menu of Italian specialties. I have personally only had their pizza and it is DELICIOUS! They have a gluten-free pizza crust (yum!) and gluten-free pasta options. You can dine in, carry out, or get the pizza delivered.

THE PURPLE COW Coffee & Confections
The Purple Cow is a quirky bakery/coffee shop with so many options to meet your dietary needs. The donuts at the Purple Cow are baked (not fried), are made to order, and have sugar-free, vegan, and gluten-free options! There is a set Donut Menu & a set Drink Menu, but all other items (such as mini cheesecakes, fruit pizza, cookies, pies, & cupcakes) are offered on a rotating basis. Because they are made to order, baked items typically take about 20 minutes. However, it is not uncommon for some of their items to get sold out! So if you want to make sure that you get what you want and do not have to wait, then it is recommended to order the night before (email to: donot4get@mac.com) by 9pm.
