Our family welcomes you to a slice of our Portland life. We live in a quiet residential neighborhood where the sounds you are most likely to encounter are the distant squawks of our backyard chickens, the pitter-patter of raindrops on the skylight, or the occasional children's squeal or dog bark.

Jewel in the Sky is a converted loft above our garage using all new construction and furnishings to give you a truly luxurious and modern get-away experience. The interior style is meant to make you feel refreshed, energized and comfortable. You have your choice of flooding sunshine or blackout darkness with our flexible window options/features. The 340 sq. ft. space resembles a studio loft that offers an open floor plan with a vaulted ceiling and a private full bathroom with tiled shower/tub. The central skylight offers a partial view of very old Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar trees off to the west. To the east, you have views of the top of our nearby extinct volcano, Mt. Tabor (which also happens to offer numerous hiking paths and a gorgeous view of downtown Portland and the sunset).

While we know many people will be out adventuring for much of your stays, we wanted a cozy place people could use as a respite from a busy life (or to enjoy for an extended-length stay). We have tried to incorporate as many of the little amenities we could think of (and fit in) so that our guests are not wanting for anything.

The full kitchen offers everything you could need (and if not, I probably have it in the main house!). Kitchen amenities include: complimentary Stumptown coffee, Starbucks Hot Chocolate, Stash tea, & fresh fruit (and usually some other surprises). Kitchen appliances include a refrigerator/freezer, range, microwave, dishwasher (all standard sizes), coffeemaker, toaster, and state of the art Multi-Pure water filtration system. A tasteful selection of dishes and cookware make cooking on your vacation fun and inspiring. Of course, if you're in the mood for a fancy dinner out or trying our myriad of food carts, you'll have plenty of mouthwatering options to choose from.

Main area amenities include: a 40” flat screen Smart TV on wheels (watch from anywhere!) and offers Satellite DIRECTV with 150+ channels plus apps (like Netflix, Hulu) to stream your favorite shows (using your personal subscriptions). Our unit also offers free Wi-Fi, automatic room-darkening window blinds, heat & A/C, ceiling fan, and indoor air-purifying plants.

Our space can accommodate up to four people plus one baby/toddler though it is most comfortable for two people. We offer a queen bed, a queen-sized sleeper sofa and a child's pack-n-play. The queen bed is constructed with headboard shelves to easily contain personal items including C-Pap machines. We also have a plethora of children's toys, books and games to share with families. We must caution that this unit does have stairs and we do not yet offer a gated solution for young explorers.

If you need the sleeper sofa, please notify us in your reservation request so that we may have it ready for you.

You will need to climb one flight of stairs to enter this unit.

There are no laundry facilities on site. Nearest laundry facility is 0.7 miles away.

You will access the garage loft by walking up our driveway toward the garage and entering through a side door of the garage. A keyless touch-screen deadbolt allows for easy access and security. You will have a personal code assigned to you based on the last four digits of the phone number on the reservation.

We will assume a preference for privacy and self-check-in. We have our rental manual loaded in this profile (viewable after you reserve) and we also have a comprehensive binder of information available for you upon arrival. If you would like to be greeted in person when you arrive, just let us know.

I am often at home in the main house and available to help answer questions, but am also responsive to messages through the app, calls or texts. We tend to be busy during the school-year with after-school and weekend activities, but there are also times we might spend the entire Saturday working in the yard. During the summer, the children may be at home or at day camp and our family might be gone camping on the weekends. As such, we leave casual interaction up to the ease and flow of everyone's schedules.

We are located in the Richmond Neighborhood - an area surrounded by destination restaurants (Por Que No?, Apizza Scholls, Original Stumptown Coffee, Bollywood Theatre), boutique coffee shops (Common Grounds, Albina Press), independent gyms, record and music stores, and even an arcade. We are also home to a vibrant and hip shopping district that includes Buffalo Exchange, Crossroads Trading, Powell's Bookstore (annex), and a host of other toy, thrift, gift, jewelry and spiritual shops sprinkled in between. Within a mile, you can also meet your basic needs with grocery stores, pharmacies, laundromats, and a UPS store. The nearest hospital is just over 1 mile away.

Parking for our guests is free and available on the street.

Uber, Lyft and city cabs are readily available to take you where you need to go.

There are three frequent-service (15 min. intervals) bus lines less than a half-mile away: Hawthorne (#14), Division (FX#2), Cesar Chavez (#75).

We are a 15 minute drive to the airport, downtown and the Convention Center. There is a Max train and a Trimet bus requiring one transfer to our house from the airport. The estimated transit time is 43 minutes.

BIKETOWN is a bike-rental program that allows you to rent bikes by the minute. There are several hubs within a few blocks of our location.

Walk, bike and transit maps are available onsite.

We have ability to speak in limited conversational Spanish and Japanese.
