Bring some reusable bags along with you. Quintana Roo is banning single-use plastics. This includes "plastics such as utensils, straws, plates, glasses, cups, trays and cutlery, among others, as well as derivatives of extended polystyrene (unicel products), will be banned. The law also includes disposable plastic bags for the transfer of merchandise used in stores and supermarkets, self-service stores, convenience stores, pharmacies and restaurants."

Great news. All countries should follow. In the mean time, lots of people we know and our family have been replacing plastic in our households with other materials. Especially in the kitchen, we use glass, ceramics, metal and paper and wax paper for storing food. It's just amazing the tons of plastic you amass in just one home!

I agree. My biggest pet peeve is the plastic bags that all of the merchants give out. We just need to stop taking those. In most states that have banned the plastic bags the grocery stores have taken that opportunity to eliminate the paper bags and increase their profits.

I've become a big fan of ball jars to store leftovers. We also buy antique glass cannisters. I'm still amazed at how much plastic we continue to use without planning on it.

IKR! Everything is encased or wrapped in some form of plastic. I don't know whether it's recyclable or not but I keep putting in the recycling bin.
