As renters and owners we have had our share of rainy days at the cabin. On of our best tips is

  1. Dont Despair - At Rich Summit View Cabin, we are at 4100' on a mountain so the climate is different than down in Boone. The mountains seem to capture some rain clouds while other times they hold them at bay. Many times we will just stay in and read, clean, or rest. But when we just need to get out, we like to use the local webcams. http://www.raysweather.com/ Check out Ray's Weather and click the Webcams tab. Look around the different areas of the High Country to see what happening. More often than not, if its raining at the cabin it's not in Blowing Rock, Banner Elk or Boone downtown.

2. Consider just grabbing rain gear and going to do what you had planned.

3. Try Mystery Hill https://mysteryhill.com/ for some fun indoor things to do.

4. Like Caves? LInville Caverns will hit the spot! https://www.linvillecaverns.com/

5 Mast Store in Valle Crucis (Boone is good too but the one in Valle Crucis is the original one and has more stuff) https://www.mastgeneralstore.com/vallecrucis

6. Ashe County Cheese is a short drive away - https://www.ashecountycheese.com/our-story/

7. Maybe take a leisurely brunch you wanted at a local restaurant.

8. Grab your umbrella and go for a walk around Bass Lake, Moses Cone Plantation

9. Wanna get muddy? Hike around the Julian Price Park loop. (as long as its not thundering) Its can be very muddy but our family hiked it during a particularly drizzly week. We just knew to take our waterproof jackets, towels and a change of shoes and a jug of water to rinse those muddy shoes off before putting them in the back...

10. Play board games at the cabin, watch a move, go to get grocery store and stock up, write a few post cards to friends and family.

most of all, RELAX and Enjoy
