Doing Laundry while staying in Progreso, Mexico

Lavanderia = Drop of Laundromat

#220 Calle 27. Ejidal Benito Juárez, 97320 Progreso, Yucatan

The Lavanderia is located 2 doors down from our home. Just walk out the front gate and turn right.

It usually opens in the afternoon, but it varies (if the gate is open, the lavanderia is open). Simply bring over your laundry basket.

Here's what you can expect:

  • One of the ladies will weigh it and give you a receipt with the amount of pesos you will owe upon pick-up and the day of pick-up.
  • Your laundry will be washed, dried and folded.
  • Pick-up is usually the next day or the day after depending on time of drop off.
  • Price of laundry is 16 pesos per kilo (2.2 lbs) of laundry.

Washing Machine: LG WP-1460R

There is a semi-automatic washing machine in the utility room; however, we do not recommend that you use it. At 16 pesos per kilo, it really is not worth it the time and effort. If you chose to use it, it is at your own risk (instructions, below).

Please do not put any of our linens, blankets, or bedding into the washing machine

Laundry

The Washing machine has a max capacity for 14kg of laundry. See Tables below for weight guides, water level, detergent and spin time.

Control Panel:

Laundry

1. Water Supply Inlet – connect water supply hose

2. Water Selector – select “WASH” to supply water for wash cycle and rinse cycle

3. Wash Timer – select desired time (35 minutes for wash; 15 minutes for rinse)

4. Wash Program – select Wash cycle – “Gentle” or “Normal” or “Strong”

5. Drain Selector – select “Wash*Rinse” for wash cycle and rinse cycle

6. Spin Timer – select 5 minutes for spin timer.

Directions

  • Set the Drain Selector (5) to "Wash*Rinse"
  • Set the Water Selector (2) to "Wash"
  • Put in appropriate amount of detergent (see Table 2). Make sure that detergent and bleach have been fully dissolved and mixed together before adding laundry.
  • Turn on faucet and fill water to appropriate level (see Table 2). Please monitor this carefully. The water must manually be turned off or the machine will overflow.
  • Add Clothing and select wash program (4) to “Gentle” or “Normal” or “Strong”
  • Set the machine to 35 minutes (includes soak time)
  • When the timer is ended, set the Water Selector (2) to "Drain." Wait for the water to drain out.
  • Now it's time to rinse. Set the Water Selector (2) to "Wash"
  • Turn on faucet and fill water to same level as during wash cycle. Please remember to monitor carefully. The water must be turned off manually.
  • Set the machine to 15 minutes.
  • When the timer is ended, set the Water Selector (2) to "Drain." Wait for the water to drain out.
  • Now it's time to spin. Move the laundry evenly into the spin dryer basket.
  • Place safety cover horizontally over laundry and press down to squeeze out excess water. Do not skip this step. The washing machine will be damaged if the safety cover is not placed.
  • Close the lid.
  • Set the Water Selector (2) to "Spin"
  • Set the desired spin time (Table 3).
  • Do not walk away until you have validated that there are no distribution issues. If the spinner basket is off balance and vibrates excessively, stop spinning, rearrange the clothes evenly and then resume spinning.
  • After the spinner stops, you can now hang your clothes on the line.
  • IMPORTANT! If the spin timer is used 3 times, please stop using the spinner for at least 1 hour. Not doing so will damage the motor.
