About this place

Town Centre | Unique | Spacious | Georgian Listed

You'll be amazed at the space upon entering your lavishly decorated penthouse; it's really a 3 bedroom home but all located on the first floor!

If you want to shop, eat or just relax, you'll feel at home in this laid-back, historic market town, which is known as the 'gingerbread town' because of the colour of the carrstone used in many buildings.

Everything is within walking distance, as we're bang in the centre but if you fancy a day out of town, the stunning Norfolk coast is just 25 miles away.

Your lovingly renovated, luxurious penthouse is located directly above our High Street furniture shop (obviously we're biased - but it's well worth a visit!)

You'll arrive at your private entrance and be greeted by a gate covered in greenery - you've reached your little oasis. Pop in the key code to gain access to the small courtyard and head up those big metal stairs. You can't get lost - there is a conservatory which leads to your front door.

The spacious and light hallway has the main bathroom immediately on the left, then meanders through, past the boot room and on to the open-plan kitchen/diner, which in turn leads into the living room, where we hope you and your family/friends will enjoy lounging on the big leather corner sofa, sipping on a glass of wine from the chiller (wine not provided, soz!) whilst watching Netflix on the big screen. You're not here to work hard, so you have a dishwasher to lighten the load and a washing machine, should you need it.

The other 'half' of the penthouse is where you will find a small desk within the hallway, which is perfect if you need to catch up on a bit of work on your laptop You'll also find the three stunning and large king size bedrooms. Which one will you choose (there's no short straw)? The 'master', which also boasts having the en-suite; the calming 'French grey' room; or the 'blue' room, with its striking, solid brass bed? Whatever your decision, as you'd expect, we've been extremely fussy about your beds and mattresses, so we're confident you'll sleep well.

We've furnished the penthouse with some lovely furniture and accessories from our shops but with a nod to the character and age of this Georgian listed building, you will also find some some beautiful antique pieces, so you have the best of both worlds.

The town centre itself features numerous independent shops, cafes and restaurants and how wonderful that they're all within walking distance! Our personal favourite is Naxos restaurant, which you will literally be looking at from your front sash windows.

Despite being in rural Norfolk, you have easy access to many other places by road, train or bus. Cambridge, Ely, King's Lynn and even London are all on the direct train line, whilst Norwich is under 50 miles away and then you're on to the Norfolk Broads.

We're happy to give you suggestions for trips should you wish and whilst we're talking about asking questions, don't forget to ask us why Paradise Road got its name, though it's a little gory!

You will have access to the complete penthouse (aside from the locked cleaning cupboard!)

There is a rear fire exit on the metal staircase for the shop downstairs, as well as a storage shed but these would only be used in an emergency situation.

If you need and help or have any questions during your stay, contact Jamie via messaging, or during business hours, feel free to see if he's working downstairs in the shop!

On the banks of the River Great Ouse and dating back to Saxon times, Downham Market is one of Norfolk’s oldest market towns.

The attractive market place is immediately identifiable by the splendidly unusual and majestic black and white clock.

There is market every Friday and Saturday.

You're in the town centre and it's a small market town, so you can walk everywhere for essentials, shops, cafes and restaurants.

If driving, everywhere is free parking in Downham Market, EXCEPT the car park behind Iceland and be careful at Tesco, as it has a limit of 3 hours (I believe) with ANPR cameras.

The nearest free car park to the apartment is just along Paradise Road - PE38 9HS. Use Paradise Garage as your reference point.

Local bus service and train station within walking distance (or short taxi ride).

The penthouse itself is accessed via a wide, external metal staircase, so please bear this is mind when booking, as it might not be suitable for people with physical impairments.

As the property is Grade II listed, we have to work within the restrictions of the Conservation Officer at the local Council, to maintain the integrity of the building. This includes us not being allowed to fit restrictors of any type to the original sash windows at the front of the property, which are very low level and for this reason, we do not allow children to stay. Please also consider this if you have concerns about anyone else in your party when booking.

There is also only one entry/exit door to the penthouse and whilst the property meets all of the current fire regulations, the secondary fire escape routes are via fully opening windows, which may not be suitable for all guests.

The penthouse is located on the one-way High Street and although Downham Market is known to be a rather peaceful place, obviously there may be some some outside noise from both traffic and the general public, so if you're a light sleeper, or not used to background noise, maybe pack some earplugs just in case? We will have some spares if you forget though!

As well as owning the Paradise Penthouse, I also own the furniture shop beneath - Living in Paradise, as well as the one around the corner - Beds of Paradise, so it's very much 'Paradise' around here! In honesty, it doesn't always feel like it, when I'm tying to spin many plates but I always do everything to the best of my ability and put the customer at the centre of my attention. I probably spend too much time working. Norfolk born and bred.
