Just 15 minutes from the Ring Road, this 3-bedroom, 1.5-bath home sits along Iceland’s stunning south coast—close to black sand beaches, charming local eateries, and the conveniences of Selfoss. It’s a peaceful seaside base for your Icelandic adventures.
Steps from the North Atlantic Ocean sits Skálavík—also known as Cabin Cove by the Sea—in the quaint village of Stokkseyri. The original home was built in Reykjavík in 1933 and later relocated here, giving it a blend of history, Scandinavian simplicity, and soft, airy light.
The two-level layout works beautifully for a couple or small family. There’s even an outdoor play area next door for little travelers. Inside, you’ll find natural materials, rich textiles, and a soothing palette that creates a clean, warm, and relaxed atmosphere.
Modern comforts include Wi-Fi, a smart TV with streaming, under-floor radiant heating, and a washer and dryer. Families will also find a pack ’n play, children’s books, a few toys, hangers, room-darkening shades, and clothing storage—small touches that make the stay smoother.
Living Spaces
After a day exploring waterfalls or glaciers, ease into the comfortable living room. Settle in with a book, enjoy a cup of tea by the French doors, or simply take in glimpses of the village. With soft textures, natural fibers, and abundant windows, the space feels bright by day and cozy at night.
Downstairs, a second living area offers a relaxed TV zone. The 55” smart TV provides streaming options—perfect for a little downtime with an Einstök or your favorite drink.
Kitchen & Dining
The kitchen is fully equipped for easy meals at home, with quality cookware, dishes, utensils, sharp knives, a microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee grinder, and basic spices. High-end appliances and generous counter space make meal prep simple and enjoyable.
A small breakfast table is ideal for quick morning coffee before heading out. For shared dinners, the dining table seats up to eight in the open living area, warmed by a natural fiber pendant light that gives the room a soft, inviting glow.

Stokkseyri is a placid village by the sea along Iceland’s south coast. We make a great stop for those making their way around the island on the Ring Road, as there’s a lot to see and do in our little town and we’re close enough to the major sights to do some great day trips and use Skálavík as your home base. We’re 10-15 minutes from Selfoss, and about an hour from Reykjavik or the Keflavik Airport.
See Iceland from a different viewpoint by booking a kayak tour with Icelandic Kayaktours (Kayakferðir) to see wildlife and unforgettable scenery. It’s even safe for the kids and they’ll love catching a glimpse of a curious seal. If you prefer to stay on land, you can take a stroll around the village. There’s a church with a cemetery across the street and we’re a short walk to the swimming pool and playground.
Get up close and personal with the iconic Icelandic horse over in Eyrarbakki. Taking in the vast Icelandic scenery from the back of one of these shaggy equines should be on everyone’s bucket list. Bakkahestar and Sólvangur are close by and both very reputable. It’s a great experience for all ages, as these horses are very gentle and easy to ride.
Ready for a hike like no other? Take the 30 minute trip to Kerið crater, a volcanic crater formed thousands of years ago that is now a lake with a hiking trail around the top of the crater, as well as one down by the water for a different perspective. The minerals in the water give the water an aquamarine tint that is incredibly striking and makes for a great Insta photo!
When the family chef wants the night off, head to Selfoss for a nice selection of dining, as well as shopping and entertainment. In the mood for pizza and burgers, Icelandic-style? Visit Kaffi Krús where you can keep it healthy or go all in. Their dessert selection is downright dreamy. Not everyone can always agree on where to eat on vacation. The answer to indecision is Mätholl Selfoss, a former dairy barn that houses eight restaurants and two bars in a beautifully-designed space. Choose from wood-fired pizzas, upscale bistro fare, tacos, and more.
Selfoss also has a great assortment of locally-owned shops and boutiques. When looking for souvenirs or gifts for everyone back home, head to Handverksskúrinn which sells all sorts of lovely handmade items, from traditional Icelandic sweaters (lopapeysas) to childrens’ toys and accessories. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, check out Nytjamarkađur Selfossi, a second-hand store featuring housewares, knick knacks, and decor. Who knows what you may find there!
When you’re ready for true adventures, waterfalls, glaciers, and black sand beaches await, all just a short car ride from our home. We hope you get to experience what is so special about our little island.
Guests will typically arrive by rental vehicle as public transportation is not widely available outside of the larger towns. Stokkseyri is located about 15 minutes south of Rt. 1 otherwise known as the Ring Road. The closest airport is KEF, about an hour away.
Iceland places a strong emphasis on sustainability. The home is heated with under-floor geothermal energy, and electricity is generated from clean hydro power. Occasionally the set point on the under-floor heating may need to be adjusted. If this happens, send us a message and we will take care of that as soon as possible.
