About this place
- A Little Closer to Nowhere -
A one-of-a-kind eco-travel experience, NOMAD is a simple -but comfortably equipped - houseboat that can accommodate up to four guests. Homeported on Junior Lake in Lakeville, Maine, you will seamlessly integrate into your surroundings while enjoying visiting loons, sweeping sunsets, and clear northern air. Bathroom & Kitchen aboard.
NOMAD is operated off of Wild Fox Cabins - please inquire if you'd like to add land options or hire a local hunting or fishing guide!
The space
Welcome Aboard!
Where tiny-house simplicity meets the rhythm of the water to form one uniquely Nomadic vacation experience.
NOMAD can comfortably sleep up to four adults, with one sleeping loft (double bed) and two single sleeping options, one in the forward and one in the aft cabin. There is ample outdoor space with a forward and aft deck, along with an upper deck accessible by ladder.
So how does a visit aboard NOMAD work?
Upon your arrival, your host will greet you in our parking area and help you unload your luggage. NOMAD will be waiting for you dockside a short distance away. After you settle in, we'll make sure you have all the information you need for a comfortable visit.
Your host will then shove off from the dock for a quick ride out to your moored location a few hundred feet off of shore. Here, you’ll enjoy the simple joy of waterborne living - take advantage of the swim ladder and plunge in the refreshing lake water, or enjoy the outdoor sun decks, Adirondack chairs, and onboard firepit.
You’ll remain on this floating oasis until the morning of your departure, at which time your host will meet you aboard NOMAD at the pre-arranged time for a quick motor back to the dock.
NOMAD will remain on the mooring unless your host is at the helm, but if you'd like to explore more of the lake while aboard, please inquire about a privately chartered cruise!
Please Note: **For safety and liability purposes, guests are not permitted to operate or move NOMAD**
While you're onboard, may we offer the following floating activities:
- Devour that pile of books that have accumulated on your nightstand
- See who can name the most constellations your first night
- Take an early morning skinny dip in the lake
- Flow through a few sun salutations on the upper deck
- Master your pour-over coffee technique
- Take that nap you've been meaning to take since last year
You are also welcome to do absolutely nothing.
As you wish :)
Guest access
As a guest aboard NOMAD, the entire houseboat is yours to enjoy - an upper rooftop deck with comfortable outdoor seating and a propane fire pit; forward and aft main deck for additional outdoor lounging areas; propane cooking grill; one petite (though luxurious!) bathroom with toilet, sink, and stall shower; well-equipped kitchen with refrigerator and small freezer, gas stove-top & oven, and service for four; double bed sleeping loft with pop-up hatches; single sleeping options for two additional guests in forward and aft cabin; swim ladder for access on and off the aft deck.
While NOMAD loves a good spin around the lake, he will happily remain moored while you visit, except when your host is at the helm. If you'd like to explore the lake, privately chartered cruises can be arranged separately - please inquire at booking. **For safety and liability purposes, guests are not permitted to operate the houseboat**
NOMAD is operated in conjunction with another vacation rental property. As our guest, you will have access to and from the houseboat via the provided canoe, your car on shore, and off-site should you choose to explore the local area.
Included onboard with your stay:
- All Linens (sheets, blankets, hand towels, napkins, bath towels)
- Hand + Dish Soap
- Fresh Drinking Water
- Cooking Essentials (salt + pepper, olive oil, coffee, tea, sugar)
- Electrical Adapters + Backup Device Rechargers (recharges anything via USB/USB-C cable)
- Canoe + Paddles (carries two adults)
- Propane for Firepit + BBQ Grill
- Yoga mats
- Life Jackets
- First Aid Kit
Other things to note
You can paddle back to shore - or explore the lake - anytime during daylight hours via the provided canoe. You may also stay in the houseboat at the dock if you prefer, except on some specific dates. Please ask before you book to make sure that's an option.
Make sure you take food, beverage, and activity requirements for your entire stay into account and bring all of the things you might need at the time of your check-in to avoid unnecessary trips back and forth to shore: medications, preferred drinks and food, sunblock and after-sun lotion, music/podcast downloads and speaker, fishing license/gear and bait, water floats, books/games/puzzles, charging cords, extra ice.
Due to electrical constraints, high-draw electrical appliances (coffee pots, hair dryers, electric kettles, toasters, blenders, etc.) are requested to stay on shore; they will disable all electricity if used aboard. Alternate options are provided whenever possible.
We strive to be good stewards of the natural resources we all use and enjoy - please consider your water usage and the waste you produce while aboard. There is a strict no overboard dumping policy and ask that nothing (other than swimming bodies) goes overboard to help preserve our pristine lake!
You will be staying in Maine and enjoying an indoor/outdoor living environment. This environment includes bugs. While the accommodations include insect deterrents (fly swatters, screens, mosquito netting, bug spray), there will be bugs sharing your space (mostly gnats and flies). Most guests find that they are a minor nuisance, but please consider your personal tolerance before booking.
Depending on your mobile carrier, you may or may not have strong data coverage while onboard. WiFi is NOT OFFERED during your stay. But that's okay. The live show is much better :)
